Description Chapter 6

Loki stood with the Casket in his hands. He watched his arms begin to turn blue.

“Stop!” a voice commanded.

“Am I cursed?” he said with his back to his father.

“No,” Odin said as if he was stating the obvious.

“Then what am I?” Loki said putting the casket down.

“My son,” Odin replied.

“What more than that?” he said turning. His body was blue and his eyes blood red. “The casket wasn’t the only thing you took from Jotunheim that day was it?” he said with venom in his voice.

“No,” Odin admitted. “In the aftermath of the battle I went into the temple and I found a baby. Small for a Giant’s offspring, abandoned, suffering, left to die. Laufey’s son.”

Loki was in shock, “Laufey’s son,” he said his voice tight.

“Yes,” Odin said.

“Why?” Loki demanded. “You were knee-deep in Jotun blood. Why would you take me?”

“You were an innocent child,” Odin said trying to calm him down.

“No,” Loki pressed. “You took me for a purpose. What was it?” Odin didn’t answer and Loki couldn’t take the silence. “TELL ME!” he screamed.

“I thought we could unite our kingdoms one day. Bring about an alliance, bring about permanent peace... through you,” Odin admitted.

“What?” Loki said confused. His whole life was a lie?

“But those plans no longer matter,” Odin said.

“So I am no more than another stolen relic, locked up here until you might have use of me?” Loki accused.

“Why do you twist my words?” Odin said frustrated.

“You could have told me what I was from the beginning! Why didn't you?” Loki begged.

“You're my son... I wanted only to protect you from the truth...”

“What, because I... I... I am the monster parents tell their children about at night?” Loki said beginning to cry. He was a creature. A despised creature. This wasn’t his family; his family was a disgusting, blood thirsty race.

“What will Alfhild think?” he thought suddenly. “If she finds out I’m a monster, she’ll be terrified!”

“No! No!” Odin said stumbling down the steps.

“You know, it all makes sense now, why you favored Thor all these years, because no matter how much you claim to love me, you could never have a Frost Giant sitting on the throne of Asgard!” Loki growled.

Odin reached his hand up to comfort Loki, but it fell back to his side. Loki stood scared, his eyes wide. He carefully reached his hand out to his father’s wrist. Was he dead?

No, no he was still breathing.

“Guards! Guards, please help!” he screamed.

The guards standing outside quickly rushed in to aid the fallen All-Father.

Loki sat there staring at the ground in shock. Everything that just happened rushing through his head.

He quickly ran from the Weapon’s Vault down the hall.

“I’m adopted, I’m not their son, Thor isn’t my brother, my life is a lie!” All these thoughts ran through Loki’s head. He ran to his room and collapsed on the floor shaking and panting.

Adalwin tried to go back to sleep but she couldn’t. Instead after hearing her father’s bedroom door slam, she decided to go see him. It was still early enough in the evening.

She quietly scurried over to the tapestry and pulled it aside revealing the passageway. She pushed the wall and headed down it towards her father’s room. She carefully pushed the door open and peered out.

She saw Loki sitting on the floor, his head in his hands shaking and sobbing. Her heart froze and she quickly revealed herself.

“Papa?” she asked her voice a mere squeak. “Papa? What’s wrong? Papa!” she nearly screamed and ran over to him.

Loki looked up surprised at her appearance, “Alfhild, what are you doing here?”

“I heard the door close and couldn’t sleep. Papa what’s wrong?” she asked her eyes wide with fear. “Are you hurt?”

“Yes, deeply, now leave me be,” Loki said bitterly.

Adalwin nearly broke, “No! We must go to the healers, you need medical attention, now!”

“I said leave me!” he screamed shoving her away. “Be gone. This isn’t something a little girl would understand.”

Adalwin was deeply hurt her father had pushed her away. “Papa! Please! I can’t lose you now!”

“Why would it matter?” he screamed standing up so quick he towered over her.

Adalwin stood shocked. “I..”

“I’m a monster Alfhild! A monster! You could never love me! I am a despicable creature! You should run away from me! You are just a pathetic mortal! I am a God! You could never understand!”

Adalwin was shocked. Inwardly she flinched from the outburst. She had never seen her father like this. So hurt. So….broken. “Papa, what are you talking about?”

“I’m not Asgardian, Alfhild,” Loki said his voice choked up. “I’m…I’m…I’m a Frost Giant!”

“What?” Adalwin said shocked. “No you’re not.”

“Yes, I am. Nothing more than a stolen relic. Odin found me after the battle and took me here to use me as a pawn for an alliance. Nothing more. I’m Laufey’s son.”

Loki stormed over the balcony and leaned against it in a fit. Adalwin stood there for a moment thinking this over.

“Papa, you are not a monster,” she started.

“Yes I am!” Loki wailed to the sky.  He quickly summoned the Casket and held it for a moment not looking at Adalwin.

“No, Papa,” she said.

“I’m not your father!” he screamed turning to her in his Jotun form. “I never was! How can you look at me and not run? How? How!” he screamed.

Adalwin’s jaw dropped. Her father never acted like this. How could he think he was a monster?

She calmly walked up to him and looked in his red eyes. “I can’t run because you aren’t a monster.” She said calmly. She reached her hand out to Loki’s and at her touch he began to turn back. “One’s look doesn’t make one a monster. You’re still my dad, and still the Loki I know. You are still the same Loki that adopted me, the same Loki that saved me from that horrible life, he same Loki who I will always trust and always be in debt to for giving me a better life. For waking up every morning and playing with me, teaching me, showing me all these wonderful things to smile about and be happy about. You are my father.”

Loki stood there panting and looking at his adopted daughter. How could he have said he wasn’t her father? He loved her more than anything and unlike everyone else; she had never lied to him and loved him unconditionally. He de-summoned the Casket.

Adalwin took his hand and led him to the edge of the bed. Then she laid her head on his arm. “My parents abandoned me too. You and me can be adopted together,” she said.

Loki smiled at her innocence. She had been abandoned and adopted. The difference was she had always known her parentage since the beginning.

He stroked her hair. “What would I do without you Alfhild?” he asked.

“Probably the same thing I would do without you, Papa,” she replied.

Loki looked down at her small form. She was just a mortal, yet she acted more of a God than anybody he had known. He needed to give her something to be proud of, a father to gloat about. He had to get the throne; he had to get her something to make up for him. She put up with him, a Frost Giant. He needed to show he was equal to Thor, to get Alfhild something to be proud of.

“Papa?” Adalwin said breaking his thoughts.

“Yes, Alfhild?” he replied.

“I’m glad you’re back. Whether or not you are a Frost Giant, I love you.”

Loki felt his heart warm from her words. “I love you too, Alfhild.” He said. He wished she would forgive him for his future actions.

Yeah. It really made me frustrated because i couldn't portray through writing how they were reacting. And i had no idea what would be going through Loki's head at that moment. I just hoped that putting the actual lines in the piece helped everyone remember the scene and picture it.
