If i showed you a comic that a friend is basically MAKING me draw, you'd kick me in the balls and beat the hell out of me. I almost hate it myself, but my friend threatens do kick me in the balls HERSELF if i don't finish three pages a day.....which i also hate. Thanks for showing me the blunt, sad, but very real truth.

This reminds me of Yahtzee/Zero Punctuation quite a bit.
Overall I think it's a good bit of ranting that could further the knowledge of people on the internets if they read it.
The 'random' thing should be shot. Seriously. 'I AM RANDOM THEREFORE I AM TEH FUNNY'.
The only thing that made me go 'ehh' is the bit about why you should/shouldn't start a webcomic. Starting a webcomic just to find your fortune is, of course, stupid and unrealistic, but starting one because you want to tell a story is a good reason to do so, I think.
Even if the writing does suck, the only way to improve is to write /more/.
Regardless, that was probably just a throwaway comment that I read to far into. Good job on the ranty tutorial.

looking back at my 2008 folder, holy shit i needed this a loooooooong time ago. Ah well, just another page in my book. Well if i ever think of making a comic or something again i'll look at this and nail it to my face as i make it. Or something along those lines. As for the actual tutorial and all the self-righteous and helpful content, it was fucking justified. You did a good job of putting comic spewers like me in their place. I, however, agree whole heatedly. I'm not as passionate as you when it comes to this topic, but I do detest shit people try to pass off as webcomics. I don't read them as often anymore for these reasons.
I understand that people ignore these basics of comic aesthetics but it still feels blown out of proportion.

Yeah... I could have probably tackled the subject a little more gingerly, but I was in a bad mood. Looking back on it, I feel it comes off as incredibly self-righteous, considering how much time/effort I put into my own comic.

Not so much gingerly... But you could be a little less rash when stating "truths" and be a little more specific. In general, you're talking about crappy webcomics that are riding on the tails of shit like CAD and the Invader Zim inspired crap, right? You should mention the format that's taken the most amount of abuse which is usually the one shot gag comics usually focused on video games. Usually that shit is like sprite comics and crap, but you're talking about writing, I know.
One thing I think you should have done with this tutorial is actually teach the person how to make a comic instead of constantly telling them what not to do. I know that you were in a bad mood when you made this but being condescending to them won't help, it'll make them pissy or just discourage them. That's the kind of stuff you use when you want to pester and troll them (Which is fun, but counterproductive). What you could do is (Along with stating what not to do) create a formula that they can understand and use. They'll understand why something doesn't work (Which is what you did) and you can teach them on how to make it work. I did see a few suggestions in there but it didn't explain very much. Examples might help.
Also... Yeah uhm. There are more than just 30 people who make a living off of comics. Anyway, the thing about the internet is... It's just the internet. If people are going to suck, they're going to suck. They'll in no way impede my progress.

It pisses me off how retarded the majority of webcomics are these days. It drowns the good ones in a sea of imbecilic nonsense and drags the name "webcomic" down into a pit of shit that no one wants to admit to being a part of.
And it's so sad because all these mistakes are just basic common sense, which seems to be lacking entirely too much in the world today.

Cyanide and Happiness doesn't have the same recurring characters over and over again. The 'subtlety' applies more to story-arc heavy comics than one shots or stand alone comics.
For example, if you had one really long story, and a bunch of one-dimensional characters with no character development beyond "I am wacky, look at my wacky adventures" or "I am the normal guy, I am normal", then it gets tiring after a while. [link]
On the other hand, that setup can work quite well if each comic stands by itself, and character development only has to occur as the comic as a whole matures. [link]
I mean, a lot of it still depends on how well you write the comic, but I'm just giving a general gist.

Honestly keep this in mind, how often do those characters make an appearance in the comic, and besides they're more of a punchline character than a random character. Also because he is a hobo he is ALLOWED to be crazy, ask any hobo you know and he'll tell you. Lastly about 4/5 of the Cyanide and Happiness comics are not funny.

Any chance you could provide examples of these terrible webcomics? I've been contemplating doing something similar to a webcomic on here for a while, and this has been encouraging - thank God I don't fit into the retard categories
And yes, I can't stand stuff when it's got a decent storyline/characters, but you don't understand what's going on :/
