Description
I've been meaning to make this tutorial for a very long time now. It covers how I color and line my stained glass-inspired artworks. It's just for fun so it's not meant to be completely accurate, but rather my personal take on the art form. I hope it is easy to follow and inspires you to make your own creation. Enjoy!Β If you have any questions about the process let me know and I will do my best to answer them. The textures at the end are by silver-

Here's the drawing used in the tutorial in case you would like to use it for coloring practice. You can also download the other shapes mentioned in the tutorial for your own use.

Hi! Thank you very much for that amazing tutorial! β₯
I tried it, too
But still, I couldn't figure out 100% correctly on step 7 and 8 how you did that as I'm using another program So I did it on my own
But it was still fun to do ^^

This is a wonderful tutorial! I gave it a go, but decided to use flat colors with textures. Nonetheless, all steps are clear and straightforward. The polygon idea is brilliant, but most certainly time consuming. It helped me to really appreciate the time you put into your art.Β
This is my attempt using flat shading and textures. I might try the polygons with some of the smaller panes later. Thanks again for this tutorial!Β Β

How cool is that Very useful thanks! (Kinda makes me want to find my Wacom pen and try it right away) Especially step 7 is very clever and I think I'll have to get back on my laptop with PS on it to play around with it. See if I can manage to reproduce similar results. Thanks again for this resource

I see! Well I will paint the picture conventionally, then I color sample spots and then make giant triangles or quadrangles over everything.
It's very simple, but I made this a while back. I would really like to make a tutorial that is more in-depth, but this sums it up more or less:
Personally I wouldn't recommend planning and mapping out each shape. Just make them as you go, like in the picture above. It is pretty time consuming as it is!

NamineLee In reply to longestdistance [2017-07-03 13:05:18 +0000 UTC]
Well that's sound extremely fun to mess around with the colors and not being afraid of color combinations, though you still need some common sense for the colors. = 7 = |'|
It's all about the triangles and quadrangles but I do hope that squares works too, have you tried experimenting with different shapes?
Owh, I think I saw this from you before. I just didn't know what to start with a blank canvas and was always stressing out with color combinations.
Ah I see, the go with the flow method. Normally how long does it take to make the stained glass paintings?Β

longestdistance In reply to NamineLee [2017-07-03 20:42:14 +0000 UTC]
That's a good point I didn't really consider! Maybe if I made a tutorial then I could add something about how to pick colors that go nice together. And I think you could use squares too! I admit I haven't experimented much with different shapes but that is a very good idea. The possibilities are endless!
The stained glass paintings are pretty time consuming, especially when making smaller colored shapes inside. 2 hours at the very minimum, usually takes a lot longer.
