Hi! I love your work! It's supper interesting to see your process
what's fine tunning and how do you decide what weight to give your lines?Β

Thank you Ishyo! When I fine-tune I like to give the outlines a heavier line weight. It can be anywhere between 3.5px to 8px, depending on the resolution of the overall image. Adding weight variation to lines can really make your lineart pop, so I dedicate a lot of time and effort to fine-tuning my drawings!

I've noticed this happening on the works I've been experimenting with but when redrawing the lines over to make them thicker they can get sketchy. Do you do it all over again on a new layer? My last thechnical question > . <Β

Yeah I like to keep everything separated as much as possible, to minimize any potential damage if I make mistakesΒ  XD Do you have any specific examples? I'm more than happy to help out!

yaaay! Thank you so much! Β

oky, so this is the line art from my last experimental work on DA >> Β i.imgsafe.org/efb19ce253.jpg
it's quite simple Β but I'm enjoying... so... noticed I have this tendency to make really tiny and thin lines (it's oky) ...but when observing I thought they lacked not only weight but that diference between them that gives the impression that some things are ahead and others behind. I thought of trying to reinforce them but was afraid to make them sketchy. That was why I asked you about the layers
Also I've always wanted to color my lines to make the drawing look more smooth...but since eveything is on the same layer some colors would invade too much the space of other objects making it look weird...Β
Yesterday I was trying to follow DA tutorials for bushes again and was able to come up with this:
i.imgsafe.org/effadaada9.jpg
although the one done with maker looks better they have that 'transparent' look that I'm not too sure off.
I'm still trying to find a good style for trees and bushes... love very much that naruto style of backgrounds

I'd definitely recommend making the major lines a few pixels thicker than the rest. This will really help your drawing pop. I would recommend using the pen tool, that way you can change the line weight if needed. I drew over it to illustrate, hope you don't mind: sta.sh/01xw2vv7djkj
So places like the outlines of the character as a whole, the ball, her hair... I would make the outlines thicker in those areas. The folds in her clothes and smaller hair strands can be skipped over in this regard. Also, coloring your lineart is a good idea! I think it makes the drawing look nice and soft.

I have some foliage brushes for SAIΒ  if you want. The site I downloaded it from is no longer available, but they're really great brushes and I can send you a dropbox link. And I agree the marker one looks better because of the way it fades from dark in the back to light in the front.

Please let me know if you think any information is missing. I know you have to edit some text files to get them into SAI, but I think I attached the right ones. I recommend backing up your config files just in case these overwrite the brush settings you already have!

Yes!! I've downloaded and installed all of them! -almost- XDΒ
had installed SAI brushes recentlly and spent some minutes trying to unsderstand how their folders work. it's pretty simple.

Organized everything and cleaned the few ones that were reapeating. The new ones that you sent me work beautifully!! Those checkers and dots and others that I've never seen before and with good resolution and the brush ones still gotta be tested with more time.
There are some that did not work though....the ones with unknow caracters  like ’³³²£’ and  the one called dandelion but now I've got a lot of new stuff to try out.
thanks a lot! If there are any that I own and you don't that you have interest in, tell me and I'll share them with you
here is the list:

That's good you were able to get it to work! I'm also glad no files were missing. I downloaded these brushes from pixiv and never bothered to rename them to English (not that I know what any of the Japanese means to begin with //hit). I hope you enjoy the brushes! Let me know if you have any questions about them.

Ooh, also yes please! I'm always looking for new resources to use in SAI.

sure! Here are my folders: Β  Β  www.dropbox.com/s/xdfd6jmvkkfp…

and here is another link with the default brushes and textures that SAI comes with, in case you want to check or fix any issues on yours - this fixed the broken brush textures on mine- Β

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the pastel brushes are really usefull to make clouds and other things toguether with the default spread oneΒ

let me know if the download succeded

PS.:remeber to start the program by pressing that app that comes with sai called: Β start-SAI Β and not by your usual SAI shortcut or else some things might not work and not show up on the program.

This piece is just breathtaking! I like especially how much it resemble a colorful church window (idk how to say it in english actually so it's the best sample I came up with sorry ; v
May I ask you how did you do the colors? I mean, did you separate every little sections to make it look that way or did you use a brush/effect for it?Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

longestdistance In reply to ElyonBlackStar [2016-08-03 02:28:02 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much! Yeah, I love how stained glass looks, so I wanted to incorporate it into my work somehow~ The sections of color are all hand-drawn.

Sometime soon, I plan on making a walkthrough on how I color. Scribble a bunch of color, and then fine-tune the shapes into whatever you'd like. Here's a crude tutorial in the meantime:
