Description “One of Rincewinds tutors had said of him that to call his understanding of magical theory abysmal was to leave no suitable word to describe his grasp of its practice.”
- Terry Pratchett, Sourcery

Day 2 Inktober and it's Rincewind, the discworld's noted failed wizard and coward. Talents mainly involve being good at languages, and running away from things.

Just something I came across concerning Rincewinds age...

"Rincewind's age is indeterminate, although the first two books describe him as being young. This is further complicated by cover paintings on some of the books themselves (one showed Twoflower with four biological eyeballs rather than spectacles explicitly described in later books) and comments made by Death about Rincewind's life-timer. Every living being on the Disc has an hourglass, usually kept in Death's home, that gradually records his life from birth to death. Rincewind's life-timer is described as resembling "something created by a glassblower with the hiccups in a time machine" most likely as a result of his constant mishaps involving magic, the nature of reality, and shiftings into alternative dimensions. This represents something of a curiosity to Death who keeps the hour-glass on his desk. The complicated and sometimes changing nature of the life-timer can not only slow the flow of Rincewind's sand, but also stop and even reverse it. As such, even Death himself is unaware of how old Rincewind is supposed to be or when he will die, likening such an exercise as trying to find the starting point on a roll of really clear sticky tape."

Surprised they cast David Jason (voice of 'Dangermouse', and Inspector Frost) as Rincewind in "The Color of Magic".  He did a good job of it, but much too old for the part.

Agreed! Fine actor, but he was much better suited as Albert in the movie of Hogfather I felt.

Don't recall him being in this movie.  Need to look at it again some day.

“Rincewind had in any case seen his past life flash in front of his eyes so many times that he could sleep through the boring bits.”

Haven´t read much of those two by now, mostly Night Watch novels, thus my favorite is Samuel Vimes.

The Librarian also has a comfy spot in my heart. And a bunch Bananas.

.... someone should write a re-telling of the Arthurian Cycle with Sir Robin (from Monty Python and the Holy Grail) as Arthur and Rincewind as Merlin: The Knights of the Running Table... (would be funny if monotonous... XD)

Never did learn how to pronounce his name--is it like rinse-wind as in wind a watch, or the wind that blows? Or Rince-sounding like rind?  Damn it!!!
