I'm still working on my digital painting style. Are there any brushes, notes, anything you have or know of that I can look at/get/purchase so I can start getting that smooth skin look you do so well with your illustrations. My stuff looks like Van Gogh paintings. Although Van Gogh is an amazing painter, I don't care for the brush strokes in my digital art pieces.

I pretty much stick to the basic photoshop soft brush for soft tones (built up from a middish opacity) and the basic photoshop hard edge brush for harder edge stuff. I do have a couple of brushes made up of small dots that can be useful for painting fur, but even some of that is just a hard edge brush set to around 2 pixel wide - and very occasionally I use a mottled brush for a little texture, but even then I tend to like just painting that with a standard brush. I do paint my pictures quite large, 4000-5000 pixels usually, and have my brushes set between 10 -60% opacity so that I build up my tones and grades gradually.
I usually start with the harder edge brush, set at a low opacity and block in my colours and shapes, then start smoothing it out more by painting over with a softer brush for the smooth areas, and a smaller hard edge brush for the edging a and sharp tonal changes.
Don't know if thats any help or even the right way for you to work, but its how I tend to work on most of my stuff.

Lighting is realized in fantastic manner and the crocodile's eye displays enormous intellect. This is a magnificent picture.

Well, I usually like to leave something a little more substantial and appreciative than a simple "wow" but as a "colorist" that's really the only word to describe this. It's one thing to work from your own lines and something else entirely to start with the idea of someone else and render it so faithfully yet inject your own style and feeling into it so completely. I'm not just impressed. I'm stunned. This is gorgeous, outstanding work. I think I'm gonna have to get out of this business. You kids coming up these days just have too much damn talent!
