Description
Pencil sketch is REALLY old and of a character I used in a short lived comic that appeared in a local crime magazine. Originally drew him up at work while waiting for the computer to finish processing something or other. Lots of things changed as I painted and it lost some of its charm as I went along, but thought I'd show the old sketch alongside the much later painted version.Marked as traditional coz of the sketch - the painting was done in photoshop.

I love it to see someone, who is scanning his pencil sketches to paint over them. I do it the same way, I just hate to sketch with my tablet in ps, it ends up in a big mess of lines, and somehow I have the best ideas with a piece of paper and a pencil....
But anyway, I wanted to say THANKS for sharing your stuff. Very Cool!

Cheers mate! Yes, I find the best way to work through ideas are with good old fashion paper and pencil - occasionally I do a tiny bit of sketching on the computer, but its never the same and probably mad far more awkward by the fact that I paint with a mouse

That is unbelievable. When is your birthday? I 'll get you a graphic tablet as a present so you can kick the ass of Mr DaVinci.
How to you achieve such colors with a mouse?

I tried a tablet early on in the piece, but there was a nasty lag between my hand movement and what happened on screen (this was a while back), so went back to a mouse and over the years have just got used to controlling it and being very precise. Doesnt work so well for sketching, but sometimes I even do that. I broke the bank on a Cintiq a little while back, but haven't really played with it much and just go back to my old way of doing things (pen tool is great for painting with, but terribly annoying for menu work or anything else on a computer). Its currently gathering dust in the back of my studio.

Damn you are such a talented illustrator, especially the coloring is unbelievable.. Are you self-taught, or did you attend some kind of drawing-school?

Cheers man! Studied Graphic design at college and did have illustration as a subject - which was no where near as useful as the life drawing classes. Other than that, I'm self taught.

Thanks for the reply! It must've to hell of a lot self teaching. I'm hoping to attend The Animation Workshop here in Denmark this summer. But it's hard to be accepted, so I'm hoping for the best. Hopefully I will reach the same level as you some day.

Occasionally to create a selection area, but its pretty just paint away with the brush tool. The Bunny was drawn up illustrator though. Cheers.

Thanks! Yeah, sorry about the watermark, but its kind of necessary. I've had people steal my art and claim its theirs a bit - even had one student take a whole bunch of stuff and hand it in at the end of their course!
