Standing on the scaffolding
Head turned toward the sky,
I watch with slow blank reality
They were wrong and so was I.

I can see the sunlight change
And watch where shadows go
Consciousness slips from my grip
As whispers fade so low.

I'll go to a better place
Where people take your words
And set them free, unrestrained
A lifeless flock of birds.

So dig a hole and bury me
For my supposed crime.
My innocence is my reward
For all this stolen time.
