BANSHEE RIDER [Silver Banshee/Siobhan McDougal, Toby Raynes + Ghost Rider/Dan Ketch/Noble Kale]

Real name: host– Toby Ketch [Toby Raynes + Dan Ketch]; spirit– Siobhan Mac Ciele/McKale [Siobhan McDougal + Noble Kale]

History:

Siobhan: Back in the 19th century, Siobhan was the eldest of her generation of Irish clan Mac Ciele (later anglicized as McKale). As such, she should perform a ritual for the clan’s leadership, but she was barred by her sexist uncle and brother. They not only were unwilling to allow a woman lead the clan, but also judged her unworthy because of her relationship with a woman, Magdalena Cormac, something they considered “unnatural”.

She confronted them and proceeded with the ritual, anyway. Her uncle Seamus Mac Ciele tired to interrupt it by summoning Mephisteron [Neron + Mephisto], offering Siobhan’s soul as payment, but Siobhan countered by summoning the Morrígan triad, the Irish equivalent of the Furies from Greek mythology.

While the supernatural entities fought each other, Siobhan’s brother Bevan killed her with his ax. Mephisteron tried to claim her soul, but Morrígan prevented him from doing it. The Irish triad killed Bevan and Seamus, then offered the men’s souls to Mephisteron instead of Siobhan’s. The demon lord agreed. While the souls of Seamus and Bevan were dragged to hell, Siobhan’s soul was turned into a spirit of vengeance, able to possess some chosen people of Irish ancestry.

Later on, Morrígan asked Magdalena if she wanted to help to keep the Mac Ciele clan and Siobhan’s lineage alive, to which she agreed. The supernatural triad, then, revealed that they kept some of Siobhan’s blood. They transformed the blood into a “life seed” and used it to impregnate Magdalena, also instructing her to say that the incoming child was Bevan’s. Further generations would share the surnames Cormac and Mac Ciele. One Mac Ciele who traveled to New York changed her surname to McKale.

Toby: Modern time, 21th century. Toby Ketch, a young investigative reporter, was researching material for a story about gang wars. She gathered some information about it with her girlfriend Maggie Dolan [Maggie Sawyer + Stacy Dolan], a police officer who leads the Special Crimes Task Force [Special Crimes Unit + Task Force], who warned her to avoid getting too close to the story's subject so she wouldn't put herself in danger.

Ignoring Maggie's warnings, Toby decided to take photos from a confrontation of two gangs: one led by Hellwatch [Satanus + Deathwatch], other made of henchmen working for Rupert Fisk [Rupert Thorne + Kingpin/ Wilson Fisk]. It was happening on a cemetery and Toby placed herself in a scrap pile from a neighbor junkyard. While trying to find a better angle, she slipped in a piece of metal, attracting Hellwatch's attention.

She received a grazing shot at the left shoulder and began to bleed. She found a motorcycle with a strange symbol on the gas cap. She touched it and was possessed by Siobhan’s spirit. This altered her appearance: her skin became chalk-white; she got skull-themed facial marks; her hair became white and blue flames; her clothes got a more aggressive look; and the motorcycle she touched got skull-like front and white-and-blue flaming tires. In that form, she called herself Banshee Rider.

She took down the criminals with her penance cry: a loud scream that affects only the ones she wants to, and makes the targets feel the suffering they inflicted on their victims. Hellwatch, however, managed to escape.

Banshee Rider: Once she was mistook for a murderer by Thor-El [Superman + Thor], who found her standing near some corpses in a warehouse. They fought each other, but were interrupted by Maggie Dolan. Maggie informed that the real killer was apprehended by the SCTF: a vampire known as Bloodout [Crucifer + Blackout]. The vampire escaped custody, but Banshee and Thor-El joined forces to capture him.

Toby shared her secret with Maggie Dolan soon after this. Although with some reluctance (Maggie had some disagreements with Banshee before the reveal), Maggie eventually accepted Toby’s other side and made peace with Siobhan.

Some weeks later, Maggie and Toby found out that businessman Stephen Thornton [Satanus/ Colin Thornton + Deathwatch/ Stephen Lords] was actually Hellwatch under a mundane facade. This information allowed Banshee Rider to defeat the villain.

Toby, however, wasn't totally sure if she could trust Banshee and resisted the transformation sometimes. Then, she was put in a supernatural dream-like state by the entity known as Dark Dream [Sandman/ Dream + Nightmare], in order to have a face-to-face conversation with Siobhan, so they could know each other better. Dark Dream knew that Banshee Rider was a necessary force, so he worked to fix the trust problem. Toby learned about Siobhan's past and was surprised when she knew that both of them were homosexual, then she told that she also suffered with her family's homophobia, although it wasn't so brutal as in Siobhan's case. Learning that and Siobhan good heart and intentions, Toby fully trusted her from then on, so the transformations happened more easily and Banshee Rider worked more effectively.

In her adventures, Banshee Rider was reminded by some people about the similarity between her and another supernatural hero who was around much before: Dead Rider/Boston Blaze [Deadman/ Boston Brand + Ghost Rider/ Johnny Blaze]. Banshee and Dead Rider eventually found each other and, despite having different origins, they discovered they had something in common: they were descendants of Siobhan and Magdalena, as well as distant cousins of Daniel Cormac, the Irish hero known as Shamrock [Jack O’Lantern/ Daniel Cormac (civilian identity) + Shamrock/ Molly Fitzpatrick (heroic identity)].

Her weirdest fight was against a zombie version of herself: while Siobhan’s spirit was in Toby’s body, her corpse was reanimated by a black ring.
