Description
Oh my god did I have a blast making this one. Salem from Speedrunners! Having a main in that game means nothing (since all the characters play exactly the same), but I main Salem anyway. She's just... my favorite. I started doing a fancier drawing with her and another Speedrunners character a while back, but never finished it... at this point, I'd probably just start it over. Before even trying that though, I figured I'd draw Salem on her own just to get a feel for drawing her. I thought it would just be a quick, casual drawing, but... no, I ended up going all-out with this. In fact, I tried several new techniques!1: I used the circle + oval head shape method from the Pikachu tutorial
2: I started sketching out of the blue. Seriously, I didn't mean to, it just happened. Believe it or not, I've never sketched before... I don't know why, but it ended up getting stuck in my head as this intimidating thing that I should probably do, but didn't know how to. So glad I finally did, it feels SO right
3: I tried shading with a lot more sharp contrast than I usually do. Not exactly a NEW technique, but one that I hadn't explored much until now
4: I approached the linework on the torso more intelligently than usual. This might not count as a new technique either but whatever, I feel like mentioning it
Also, I drew the whole thing in one sitting, which is rare for me. I think it took me... I dunno, maybe around 4-5 hours? And I remembered to flip the canvas periodically!
I love Speedrunners so friggin much. It's a serious contender for my all-time second favorite game (first is Celeste, uncontested), and I've been playing it a lot lately. Getting good at that game is just... OH so satisfying, haha. You seriously feel like an ethereal being of some kind, whipping around the stages. Anyway, I took some creative liberties with Salem's design... the biggest thing is that I gave her a tail. The drawing just didn't look right without one, so...
Hope you enjoy the drawing! Drop a fave if you do? More of Salem coming... eventually, I hope!
