By readily available, does that mean you can find it at Home Depot? Where would you suggest?
Hats off to you for the time taken to make the rope to do the ties. No easy feat I know.

Yes, the rope is available at Lowes and Home Depot.
Make sure it's the kind with a fiber core, then just
pull the core out.
After a week or two, you get much better at pushing
the EL Wire into the rope.

I was actually asking about the EL wire and where you can find that. I have tons of the rope you are talking about.

The EL wire is available from many web sites. We got ours from glowire.com

What size EL did you use for this was it the 2.5mm, 3.2mm or 5mm; what size driver are you using for it; and how did you finish the ends of the rope so they didnt fray back?

I don't remember the size, but it was standard. Β The driver ran on 4 AA batteries and was hidden in the small of her back. The trick was to tie the dress so all four rope ends came to the small of her back. The rope ends were finished with white electrical tape.

EL Wire is readily available...just use a 6 gauge insertion taper to help push it into hollow rope. We used cheap nylon rope from Home Depot with the fiber core removed.
It took me two weeks of hand work to make enough rope to do shibari ties.
