Description
Model: Dee LuvbightLocation: Red Light District, Amsterdam
The rumor was that the food and drink in Amsterdam was so expensive that Dee had to earn some extra money so we could afford our trip to Europe.
This was our first trip to Amsterdam, and our first experience with the Red Light District. There is a strict no camera policy in effect, and the threat is that the bodyguards will confiscate your film and/or camera if you shoot photos of one of the girls.
We had a different goal: to get a sexy shot of Dee on the inside of one of the windows.
After a few test shots in our Dam Square hotel room, we showed up in the Red Light District with a tripod, a couple of speedlites, a small magenta gel and a plan. We had to wait for hours wandering the streets and drinking in cafes until the sun went down; I wanted a dark ambience to make the lighted window stand out.
Dee attracted a lot of attention, mainly because she was one of 0.1% of the women in Amsterdam wearing a skirt. Her fiery red hair and dazzling smile didn't go unnoticed, either.
We passed the time drinking expensive cokes and more expensive water, and discussing whether any of the girls would be willing to "rent" her room for the shoot, and how much they'd charge.
When it was finally dark enough, we walked up to a window with a dirty blonde in a bikini and knocked on the door. I asked her how much she would charge to take a photo of my wife in her window. With absolutely no hesitation she said "Fifty Euro." I said "Okay."
I set up a 550EX speedlite with a magenta gel and a Microsync radio receiver inside the room to add color. Dee went back into the room to strip down. The girl was very concerned that Dee not show her butt in the thong panties, since the girls are all licensed and have to adhere to a strict dress code.
While she undressed, I set up my Canon 5D on a tripod and held a second speedlite outside. I was so focused on getting the shot that I didn't notice the crowd of 40 people behind me trying to see whether the guy with the camera was about to get pummeled, and would the hot redhead be using the services of the blonde in the window.
Dee was shocked to see the crowd when she came back to the window, but she posed and worked it for the camera. After I got the shots, I handed our portfolio book to Dee to show the girl while she dressed and I packed up the camera equipment.
The landlord who rents out the windows was so impressed by the crowd that Dee drew that he offered her a job. So if we ever go back to Amsterdam, Dee has an open invitation.

I was really scared by bodyguards, so I wasn't so brave to ask a photo to the girls.
Nice shot and amusing description.
You deserve a "fav"!

Anyway, compliments again for the idea!

I was thinking about trying something similar to this, and now that i've heard it is possible, might give it a go. Beyond using a friend, I was contemplating asking a working lady to take part in a photo, while obviously leaving out the face...think it would fly?

I doubt you'd get the working girl to willingly be in the photo.
But we had no trouble getting agreement from the first girl we asked to let us photograph the window. Like I said, we chose an area where there weren't windows across the street. Otherwise, all the girls on the other side would be calling for the police.
And the price was the same as sex or a blow job.
Post your photo here when you get it shot!

This shot was planned out, otherwise, taking pictures in the RLD is a no no

The working girl who was renting the window, and the landlord who rented it certainly had no trouble taking my money so I could take this shot

Thanks. We had lots of fun, although we had to wait a long time for the sun to set (I guess Amsterdam is really far north and west in its time zone).
Dee had fun teasing the guys wandering around the district. One guy almost wrecked his motorcycle trying to drive and watch her at the same time.

Well far north, depends on where you are. I live in Sweden and for the next two month it will never be quite dark even in the middle of the night. And in the north of Sweden we have the famous midnight-sun...

Okay, relative to Austin Texas, Amsterdam is quite a bit farther north. The trick is that with all the tall buildings in Amsterdam, I wasn't sure how fast it would get dark in the Red Light District. I wanted there to be enough ambient light to keep detail in the architecture, but dark enough to make the neon lights stand out. So we got there several hours before sunset.
We were way too early, which is much better than a little too late

You are right
Have saw on photographer adding a "Wait for the light" number in his pictures, it varied from a few hours to several days! Maybe you should consider yourself lucky
