Description
This is the second illustration for 'Relative Misery' by Douglas E. Wright for Black Ink Horror issue #2. This one took forever! The names on the tombstones are the names of the other artists on the BIH art team. I hope that doesn't upset anyone! It's an homage of sorts to the incredible artists working for this magazine. I think I got everyone, if I missed someone, I am terribly sorry!

this is terrific work. your shading technique is truly something to behold.
p.s. does that stone on the bottom-left corner say THX? hahaha

thanks! glad you like it.
hahaha, THX! no, it actually says 'Timothy' for 'Timothy Manning' the pen name of the editor for Black Ink Horror. all the grave stones feature the names of the BIH art team. but that gave me a good giggle

Damn, I'm not on it! I think I'm not noticed on the site yet anyway. It's a brilliant idea to put the names of the artists on the gravestones though!
As for the illustration in general, I really adore it. Very nice details.
The only thing I'm not sure about is the texture on the trees and gravestones. Perhaps horizontal lines would work better for the gravestones, and horizontal curved lines for the trees to give it more depth (but in that case the lines should be less dark in the middle). Still brilliant though.

i'm so sorry i missed you! are you i issue 0,1 or 2? i was trying to get everyone who had done an illustration up to that point. i am really sorry.
thanks so much for the compliments and the criticism too. i've been a crosshatcher for most of my pen and ink career, and just now i've started using other forms of shading. but sometimes old habits die hard! i think you're right, sometimes i have difficulty getting a unifor texture over larger spaces with crosshatching. thanks for the suggestions!

Ahh I hate filling up large spaces anyway. I often have difficulty with that. I like doing small details better.
I haven't done an illustration for any story yet, however, as far as I know I will get a biography in issue 1 together with an illustration I did. But the communiation with the guy from BIH isn't the best I must say.

That's an awesome piece, and I never thought my name would look so good on a tombstone! A great idea and really well executed. Though I might be executed if I don't get mine done for the 15th...I havent started them yet! *runs*

i have every faith you'll get them done, and that they'll be fantastic. i thought they were due on the 5th, though! man, i was hurrying for no reason!
thanks for the great comments, i'm glad you like seeing your name on a tombstone. i was kind of worried it might upset someone, but so far everyone has liked it!
happy new year! it was good to hear from you.

Thank you very much and a happy New Year to you too I think we all have a high degree of insanity to be creating the work that we do, so I'm not surprised everybody loves the tombstones!
