Description
Mar. 25 '08I don't remember exactly what day I started this comic on, but I think it's safe to say that I've been working on it for a whole month now. There's something eerily ironic the way I did this piece to poke fun at myself for my constant procrastination and my short attention span, and how this very piece suffered both of these.
In fact, I will admit that this piece was originally intended to be longer, featuring more characters, and has had about four different punchlines over the past month. There's been enough injuries, distractions and otherwise nuisances to make me shorten it though. It was also originally going to feature the shading style I'd used for my new Dev ID. Due to the issues my computer's been having lately though, I opted to keep the colors flat (which I think fortunately still worked pretty well here for some unknown reason). I think this project may've been too busy and complicated for this ancient machine since I already almost broke it once trying to enter text. In the future, I'll need to get a new computer. Until then, I can probably still do comic pieces, just not ones that are quite so big like this I suppose.
***
Anywho, you'd probably like to know what's going on here. I have never had any doubt in my ability to be creative or to tell a story. And anyone who's ever read my work (or had me give an in-depth synopsis to them) has been in total agreement. But recently (even though it's been going on for years, it's really hitting home recently), I've been getting extremely frustrated with myself for my inability to commit to any one project. At present, there are roughly 20 or so stories that I feel are good enough to tell. I love them all. I've spent a great deal of time on each. I not only want to, but feel I'm obligated to tell many of them. But for some reason, I just can't finish (or in some cases, start) any of them.
The comic here is basically a gathering of several of my original characters protesting against their creator (me). I don't actually think ANYONE will recognize every single one of these characters. Some of my watchers will probably know a few from previous pieces; my offline friends may know a few more, but I know there are couple I've told no one about. Though I did try really hard to make sure that despite the obscurity of the characters, the joke wouldn't be lost. I hope I succeeded.
Also, for those of you hardcore geeks who think they've found glaring discrepancies:
- "Lavender Town" is the official name of my NaNoWriMo project. When you can't think of a title for your story, the name of the location of the story works just fine... especially in this instance, when I don't think there's any such place in real life.
- Some people may know "Rozzy Johnsten" better as Kelley Johnsten. For a multitude of reasons, many of the characters in "Bleak Divinity" have undergone name changes. I won't go into it here though since it'll make this already too long blurb longer and it's fairly irrelevant to the actual comic.
***
So, let me just say comments are especially important to me on this piece. Do you have any critique on the art or the writing? Was it funny or too obscure? Should I never do something like this again, or would you guys like to see more of these characters? Are there any aspiring writers out there who know what I'm going through? Any advice?
I went through a lot to get this piece up, at least dignify me with some acknowledgement. Positive or negative, I want to hear it.

In all honesty? I can empathize. I've had my fair share of started projects that I never finished, including a Smash Bros-themed fanfictiony-story that popped into my head about two days ago. (Coincidentally, while playing Smash Bros.)
For me, this mostly applies to my Roleplays. Although....hmm....
I'm much more likely to stick with a group-RP, but in onexones, I may wind up abandoning a particular RP for a month or more, then suddenly picking it back up again.
Which is why nowadays I try to make my onexone's fairly 'episodic', if that makes any sense. A set of characters with a scenario, but a bunch of little mini-adventures that can be picked up/dropped off on a whim.
But I'm ranting now. Does my ranting make sense? Hmm?

Okay, I totally have to do a story like this with my characters now...
And YAY! Rain's naivety payed off! (I really, really love that comic.)

Awww! Rain!!! I like her outfit! I'm the same way! I start out strong but cancel projects and forget my characters so many have vanished from my head! Forgive me guys! Only one character has managed to stay around for 6 years and is in constant comics and stories.

I really enjoyed the webcomic personally, and I agree with Rain that is better to see how good you can get your art. I have three serious pieces before I decided to go simple because the skill would've been to much for my level (still want to post some concept art though). Princess Bitch actually sounds the most interesting of your unannounced pieces, but I guess its because I have someone in my collection that is a lot like her. I'm really glad you and I both know why we can't finish anything, it really helps get things done. But I guess it is safe to say that your stories really are a haven to retreat to, no message parlor can do that. And yeah, a Midna trophy is worth it.

Ah, Princess Bitch. One of my more random works, I literally came up with it on a whim, but quickly grew to love it. Aisha is such a fun character to work with. Alas, based on the general consensus I'm getting for her involvement in the OCSC, it seems the world is not yet ready for her bitchtitude. Oh, well. I'm sure the time will come someday. ^_^
My stories are a safe haven, it's true! I love to come home after a long day at work and plot out a new scene or work on a character design. It sounds weird, but that's my kind of relaxing.

Its not weird at all. I always thought going to the spa was kind of a distraction when someone brings it up. So when people go out and enjoy being pampered, I found it to be the best time to take out my notes and see what else I can discover. I guess no one gets me.
Really excited about what you're going to do with her, I'm sure I can guess, but it never compares to what you probably already know. Hope to learn to not only hate, but love princess bitch.

I hear you. I'm the same way. One of the characters in this comic dates back over ten years. It's scary to think I've been at it for this long and still haven't actually fully completed anything.

I hear you, but lately I'm doing a little bit better. I mean, I still haven't FINISHED anything, but I'm making more PROGRESS than I usually do.
Best of luck to both of us for our characters' sakes that we can someday finish something. ^_^

Oh man, I can so relate. I've got subdirectories filled with stories on hold.
But the worst offense of all? My OCs. They were created for a series I haven't even started yet and they were the support characters! Now they have their own stories and I still can't get back to the original stories ...
Writing them is so much fun (when I'm not hijacked by Real Life)!

In Smash Bros. there is, but not in Zelda if that's what you wondering. Brawl had just come out when I was wrapping this piece up, so of course I went and integrated it into the punchline.
It makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one who does this sort of thing all the time.

Procrastination... My worst enemy... I totally know the feeling of putting something off you REALLY want to continue (or start XD), but then you don't =='
My actual only decent piece took me about half a yearto finish... Tht was some time beforeI came here though. I decided to post it up after finding it XD

Very cool. I myself am going to start revealing some of my old work here; see if maybe if people like my work enough they'll be like, "What's wrong with you? Finish it already!" Maybe, just maybe, that will be a helpful incentive. I am more inclined to do something for someone else after all.
Thank you very much for your input and faving!

Hehe. An uprising? How cute.
I have no qualms with the dialogue. I don't think it's too much. Heck, I'd like to see a follow-up to this piece.
You probably want detailed critique but I don't have much I'm afraid. Your poses have improved and the facial expressions still make me giggle (in a good way).

I could probably DO a follow-up too, considering how many characters I left out. It couldn't be on my current computer though. I'm convinced that poor, old thing would just explode before the end.
Well, I'm glad to hear I'm improving at least. As always, thanks for commenting!

Alrighty, a small piece of advice when doing a web-comic: people on the internet have extremely short attention spans. Though I have a lengthy attention span, and I actually ENJOYED a lengthy piece of dialogue, most people will read the first line and go, "Ugh, they're still talking?" My suggestion is to cut back a little bit on most of the dialogue and go for where it really counts. I wouldn't know exactly how to do it that way, though; your characters do need explanation. Sorry for not really helping in that department. >_>
Your art, however, is really cute! I do like your expressions because they're true to the character's emotions in the dialogue.
And lastly, the situation in the piece is completely understandable. It's a relatable thing that most artists go through, and as I read this, I kept thinking of myself, "Awe, Little Lynn, I know exactly how you feel." You could definitely explore the way you put things off, and make it into a sort of series. Self-deprecating humor is good for the soul. XD
Overall, I really liked this comic! C: Excellent work!

I'm known to ramble on sometimes, but I admit my comics aren't typically THIS wordy. But as you say, the characters do sort of need an explanation, so I tried to sum it up as quickly as I could (so much for that!).
I agree, self-deprecating humor IS good for the soul. As they say, the first step to solving the problem is admitting that I have a problem. The only difference here is that basically just declared it at the top of my lungs.
I glad you liked it. Thank you very much for the comments!
