It took about 9 months to make (but that counts dawdling time too xD). I could've done it faster and better if I was more organised, but I learned a few things from it and know what I'm capable of. I'm pleased that people like it, so I'm happy
Thankyou for watching it.

Yes, I made it for my final year project at art college. I got some help with animating and colouring some parts, as well as backgrounds and voices. I wanted to try and blend what I liked from American and Japanese cartoons, and make an action-based film.
I'm also happy that you like the poster too ^^

Thankyou for watching it ^^
It took practice for me to learn how to animate like that (though I had help in some parts).
Glad you like the poster as well. I have two of them that are about 29"x43" big!
Someday, I'll make something better than this

Machu In reply to Kaittycat [2008-06-09 15:38:43 +0000 UTC]

Thanks
This film took about 9 months to make, including the time to do the storyboards (which I spent far too much time revising ^^' ), animation tests, colouring and dawdling
I could've done it faster if I wasn't so lazy, and overcomplicating things. Generally, it does take a bit of time to do an animation with the amount of detail as this one. So, it's a good idea to have everything planned at the beginning so you're all set to go. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask

Kaittycat In reply to Machu [2008-06-09 22:27:00 +0000 UTC]

Goodness, 9 months? I hope you consider it worth it, because it's great The detail matches that of high budget studios, in my opinion.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Machu In reply to Kaittycat [2008-06-10 09:20:53 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad I finshed it It didn't turn out as well as I wanted, but it I was glad to have a film. And people's liking it has made it worth it
That also got me to draw more of Mat and Brixie (the other rabbit). As for the quality, I wanted to try and make it like cartoons on TV that I liked, and I researched some techniques and screenshots to do that. Thankyou for your comment.

That's super cute! I really like the way you drew the Rabbit character. It's obviously in an anime style but at the same time he looks stylized (I'm probably not wording this right).

So is this your character, and did you make the film? Well either ways I'm off to go watch it ;3

Machu In reply to ChibiKeba [2008-04-03 17:58:19 +0000 UTC]

It's OK, I understand what you mean. I got inspiration from American stuff too.

And yep, he's my character, and I animated most of the film Hope you enjoy watching it.

Hey man, that was a pretty good animation. It was not only just a good student film but a great animation in general to come from Scotland. I totally applaud you for it, great work. ^_^

I had always thought about doing a Animation course in Dundee, but I'm not sure if I have the ability, time, and patience to try it. And I live in Glasgow and I don't like the sound of moving to Dundee as well, Glasgow doesn't really have Universities that have Animation courses, its kind of rotten for me. I'm not the moving type.

Machu In reply to StewieTheGiant [2008-02-12 21:48:33 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for those kind words about my film. I personally feel that Scotland, in fact the UK in general, needs to do better with animation; most of the animation we see is either American, Canadian or Japanese (although I do like the stuff these countries bring out ^^'. It wasn't like this as much 20 years ago when we had colourful animated ads, and names like Cosgrove meant something.

I went to Duncan of Jordanstone (part of Dundee University) for 4 years. The good things were that they taught me the technicalities of animation (e.g. key frames, inbetweens, dope/exposure sheets etc.), there were plenty of resources and experienced lecturers. The downsides were that we had to work off your own initiative (although you could ask the lecturers for advice), and nothing could really prepare me for the outside world.

I believe there are animation courses elsewhere (like Edinburgh for example, but you're better checking). I live in Fife, the crossroad between Edinburgh and Dundee, so I just chose to go to Dundee. If you do decide to go on an animation course, I have one piece of advice -- use the resources and help if it's there.

I hope that's helpful, or at least inciteful

StewieTheGiant In reply to Machu [2008-02-12 22:59:31 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for the advice. I still don't know what to do with my life, I'm doing a 2 year illustration course at the moment. I'm told that it could lead to other things, I just don't know what to do after it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Machu In reply to StewieTheGiant [2008-02-13 09:29:42 +0000 UTC]

There would obviously be more opportunities with illustration than animation. I know myself that I can't just focus on animation alone, as there may not be enough jobs.
I think that many people are too 3D-centric nowadays. In my opinion, 3D is less of an art, and more to do with physics (and I want to be an artist, not just some technician ).
Besides, being a specialist in 2D, I like drawing and wouldn't mind doing my own comics or illustrated story books. As long as I get my stories out there, I'll be happy

In terms of what you want to do, understand what it is you like. I'm sure something will inspire your way forward.

StewieTheGiant In reply to Machu [2008-02-13 12:37:02 +0000 UTC]

I hope so, Its just that ever since I was a kid I always wanted to be a Filmmaker, but I never liked the idea of working with real-life actors on a set you see. I always loved drawing so I think animation might fulfil that ambition, it sounds the most logical thing to do.

And your right, 3D is way too monopolyzed these days. I can't remember when a big 2D animated came to the cinema, DAMN YOU DISNEY!. I've always wanted to see a studio Ghibli film in the cinemas cause one of my mates at college told me that they are best seen in a theater. I find it surprising to know that Pixar is making a 2D animated movie, hard to believe eh, it's called "Up", its about an old man who goes on an adventure with a forest ranger of some sort, it's good that they are doing something different for once.

Anyways, yeah! I like to do comics as well, especially graphic novels. I'm actually working on one at the moment, I hope to make it soon and upload it to DA. I've already uploaded a few sketches of it, just my lead character though.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take it into consideration when or if I make a choice.
