Description

Another one in my Martian rovers series. This time it is, now nonoperational, Mars Exploration Rover “Spirit”, which roved Mars for over 5 years until it got stuck in a soft soil.

Spirit, also known as MER-A (Mars Exploration Rover – A) or MER-2, is a robotic rover on Mars , active from 2004 to 2010.[1]  It was one of two rovers  of NASA 's ongoing Mars Exploration Rover  Mission.

Learn more about this mission on official NASA website  and Wikipedia .

Prints of this and other artworks are available in my society6.com  and deviantART.com  shops.

Could you make some space art about Poland, I'd love that. I love space and I am quite patriotic. (Though, when I was younger, mum and my stepdad moved (with me) from Poland, so I don't speak Polish very fluently, but, I wish to come back when I grow up.)

Beautiful.  Spirit did a wonderful job.  Rest well, little one.  Someday, hopefully soon, we'll be there to join you.

Nice work.  Their original mission was only supposed to last 90 days.  Her sister, Opportunity, is still roaming the surface today.  Amazing!  Maybe, in the future when humans go to Mars, someone will brush off those solar panels and it will come back to life.  Anyway, nice tribute.

These rovers were supposed to last for like a year or so and ended up lasting for half a decade and I think Opportunity is still functional. With efficiency like that, NASA should be designing everything else in this world.

I wonder when we'll get around to picking up some of our junk we've left around the solar system? There's a bunch of it on the moon, obviously more on Mars, some on Titan, and a few things on Venus, although that stuff may have corroded away to nothing by the time we get to it.

This sort of picture fills me with an odd sense of melancholy.  Good job.

If I can depress you even more, think of some tourist clown scuffing away the Apollo 11 foot pints or even sadder, in the far future some extraterrestrial finding our stuff after we are all gone and wondering why we never went beyond it.

Someone named "Cat" wrote a poem about Curiosity and other abandon rovers, called "And they told us to tell you hello"

Thank you for the website.  I will have to take time to look it completely over and the section is comforting.  But I still believe that we as a species can do much better than a few pieces of junk in space for our high water mark.  It is my hope we take that final leap into the ocean of star.
