Elmlight and Ashwool had spent the entire day cleaning out nests in the nursery, changing out old moss and replacing it with fresh moss. With that done, they could guilt-free clean out their own nests. They had saved those nests for last, as a way to encourage completion of the task, and were finally dragging moss in to form Ashwool's nest. "I guess you need a lot of moss, huh?" Elmlight purred, nosing together a pile of soft moss. He had plucked a bird earlier, right after the camp cleanup was announced, specifically intending to fluff up his partner's nest.

Ashwool yawned softly out of tiredness from working all day, but of course it was worth it because they got to spend all day with their sweet little boyfriend. The larger tom had been helping Elmlight to carry over bigger pieces of moss to their nest. Placing it down next to the healer, they smiled shyly and sat next to him.

"I uhm, I guess so.. I'm sorry if it's a bother, I know I'm really big... it is okay, right..?" Ashwool asked shyly, feeling guilty to have their partner help them all day, he must be sore by now. "I uhm. I can do the rest of my nest if you need a break, you know?" They offered, a small gentle smile on the face.

The tabby tom blinked in surprise as Ashwool began to apologize. Truthfully, he had thought they had moved past that stage in their relationship, but maybe Ashwool still felt insecure about their size? "No, no! I don't need a break or anything. Actually, uh, I wanted to add some feathers to it for you." Elmlight ducked his head, chuckling to himself softly about just how... mushy he had become. He'd do anything for Ashwool, really.

But there was still the fact that his partner felt some kinda way about their size. Trilling a little mischievously, Elmlight wound himself around their front paws and pressed up into their mane, hiding his face. "I happen to quite like your, uh. Your size. It's nice."

The pointed tom felt their ear tips heat up as Elmlight mentioned wanting to make their next feel comfier with feathers, their heart fluttering with affection. It felt... comforting to have Elmlight care so deeply about them, that he thought of simple little things to show his affection. "O-Oh uhm.. that's so nice uhm... maybe... we could make your nest more comfortable too..?" Ashwool stammered, smiling softly. Ashwool wanted Elmlight to know how much they cared about him as well.

However, the large caretaker was taken off guard as their boyfriend snaked around their thick legs, burying his face into his fluffy mane of fur. "Y-You do..?" They whispered shyly, looking away with fluster as he felt the light rumbling of purrs from their partner. "I'm sorry... I-I shouldn't be so self conscious but... I just feel like I get in the way a lot and I... no-no I can't worry, not with you... y-you like me this way."

"Correct," came the rumbling reply laced with purrs, Elmlight pressing up into the caretaker once more before pulling away. "I, uh... I hope I can make you feel like you make me feel. I feel... more confident, at least when I'm with you." Stars, it felt like every time he talked to Ashwool he began to overheat. Sappy stuff just spilled out of his mouth whenever Ashwool was around, it seemed.

"Uh, but, actually..." Elmlight cleared his throat, shuffling moss around absently to keep his paws busy. He was a little nervous, but it wouldn't hurt to ask, right? Ashwool wouldn't keep it against him, he was sure. "I was wondering... maybe we could share your nest? It-it's just, uh, really big, so I'd fit, and uh... I wouldn't mind merging ours together, that's all." Awkwardly, he reached one hind leg to scratch at his cheek.

Ashwool felt bad for feeling self conscious about their size while Elmlight explained feeling more confident when he was with him. It wasn't as if they didn't feel the same and it wasn't his fault, they were just so... big, and sometimes they didn't know what to do about it. "A-Ah I know, I'm sorry... I uhm.. I do feel more confident and comfortable when I'm around with you, yknow..? I'm uhm. Less anxious than I was before, you know..?" They mumbled softly, feeling embarrassed for being so silly and worried about their body.

Once again, the larger tom was taken off guard as Elmlight began to speak again. Ashwool took note of how the smaller tom was fiddling around with the moss being... nervous? Why would he be nervous? Did they do something wrong? However, before Ashwool could dwell further into self deprecating thoughts, Elmlight surprised them by asking if he could share a nest with them indefinitely- which in return caused Ashwool to feel their whole body heat up. They felt like they were on fire. "W-Wh...." Ashwool stammered, blushing up their fur and flicking their ears back. Was this really happening? "Y-You really... want to share a nest with me...? Gosh. Oh gosh, uhm.... I'd uhm.." the caretaker trailed off, before returning their gaze back onto their boyfriend with a soft, shy smile. "I'd, uhm.... really really like that, actually. "

Their complete and utter shock came as a surprise to Elmlight. They had been dating for a few moons now, was it really that outlandish of a request to share a nest? Maybe he was moving too fast? Before he could attempt to gobble the words back up and forget it ever happened, Ashwool was agreeing to it with one of their heart-melting smiles. It was hard for Elmlight to stay anxious when they looked so soft and unsure of themself. Every time his thoughts started getting the better of him, they became replaced with care for his partner, the urge to make them happy.

"I'm glad," he breathed, eyes soft and adoring as he looked up at his big boyfriend. "We'll have to make it a little bit bigger, then. Uhm... I like cuddling you and all, but it's gonna be greenleaf soon, and... well. I can only imagine how warm you must be." A soft, teasing smile appeared on his face as he looked at the Ashwool-sized nest. Soon it would be Ashwool and Elmlight-sized.

The larger tom took a calming deep breath, trying to will away any of their stammering, wanting to speak clearly and confidently to their boyfriend. With a soft rumble in their chest, Ashwool bent over and gave the small healer a shy lick on the top of his head before moving to his side so they could start on their nest renovation. "Heh, uhm... it does get really warm with my fur but uhm, I just... really enjoy cuddling with you it makes me.." Ashwool begin, averting their gaze with a shy, adoring smile on their face.

"Being close to you makes me feel really happy.. really peaceful. You know..?" They mumbled softly, their tail calmly swishing behind themself before shyly wrapping around their boyfriend. With their eyes still averted, they had an idea. "El... I uhm.. I-I.." Ashwool began, stammering once more before pausing, taking a deep breath and looking back at the smaller tabby tom they cared so deeply about, a loving look deep in their blue eyes. "I uhm... I love you, El."

I love you. The words shocked Elmlight down to his core. He hadn't been expecting... well, he had been thinking about when it would be appropriate to say that, but he wasn't sure how soon would be acceptable. Ashwool loved him, though, and it made everything else fade away. "O-oh, I. Stars, I.... heh, I love you too." His ears burned as he leaned into the tail wrapping around him. "I... I wanna do this right, though, Ash. Let's wait a bit before moving any further with this, okay?" After they mumbled agreement, Elmlight smiled fondly and moved to help Ashwool finish up their new joint nest.

He knew he'd sleep well that night, and every night thereafter.
