Description [insert wall of text I've thought of while working on this but can't seem to remember now]

Random facts:
Males of this species have bright red crests, while those of females are a reddish brown.
Their beaks are actually exposed bone; in newborns, they are still covered in skin. For special occasions, they are traditionally painted with white dye.
The quills on their tails and second pair of "hands" are an evolutionary relic and used to hold gliding membranes; rests of the membrane can still be seen on their tails.
Quills and claws are usually clipped short as per normal society standards.

I love how unusual the hands are, and the layout of the 'fingers", can they use their vestigial pair of arms or are they weaker than their main set?  And why did they evolve to lose the ability of flight, or gliding rather? I guess cutting quills would be like cutting hair right?  And are those little shoe-things?  They look really soft!

Thanks! Obviously after adding toes I had to add more fingers too to keep things consistent

They can use their second pair of arms, although it is weaker, and the fine motor skills of the second pair of hands isn't as well developed. It would mostly be used to hold something while the main pair of hands is busy (like a cup of coffee while typing, stuff like that, I imagine.)
I think they lost their ability to glide when moving out of the forest into the savanna, it mostly would have been a means to get from tree to tree.

And yes and yes^^

This is a very intriguing race

It's interesting to think they were once capable of flight (or gliding).

Makes you wonder if they still ever suffer from a deep instinct to want to take to the air.

Thank you!

That's an interesting thought. They do lack any fear of height (with very, very rare exceptions I suppose.)

Do any of them feel cheated by evolution to no longer be able to take to the skies?

I wouldn't say so, I think flying (on your own wings) would be considered a primitive thing, if anything. (There's another sapient species on their planet that still flies and they don't get along too well, so maybe that contributed to this view. Or conversely there might be some envy involved in their dislike. Or both, human-ish minds are complicated after all.) You can probably tell I haven't really decided yet.
