Description Grand Canyon, August 2001

During the days I was there every day around 3 pm clouds would come up (or rather down into the canon) and a short shower of rain or even a quick thunderstorm would happen - bringing some needed refreshment when hiking around there.

This view is from the southern rim, shortly after the end of one such rainfall, when the clouds were breaking up again.

nice capture of the clouds. The detail in the clouds is a bit more noisy than I would usually like, but I really like how the clouds seem to be wrapped around the canyon in the background.

Thank you very much for the comment.

As for the noise - that is at in part from scanning the slide and in part the natural grain of the film

How does this not have more of a response? It's an absolutely amazing capture!

Personally, I would have taken the crop line up so that the tree or the little patch of brown is absent from the bottom, but overall I think you captured a beautiful moment in time. It's so different from the rest of the things you see of the Grand Canyon ...

Thank you very much for the comment.

Good point on the bit of bush in the corner, I'll leave it in for now as a documentation of a learning experience Maybe I'll upload a different version some time later.

killer view. love the clouds.
do a noise reduction or dust & scratches in photoshop to clear up the grain.

Thank you for the comment, I'll see if I can reduce the noise without losing too much from the photo

Beautiful composition. It seems a bit grainy, but I imagine that's from the scan, happens to me too.
It's a great shot.

Thank you very much, yes the grain comes from the scan - or rather from the film's own grain. I guess I'll have to scan with less resolution in the future
