Detail of the wing of a brown/black insect that I can't readily identify. I think it is some kind of bumblebee. Found that bugger lying around dead some years ago on a holiday to Italy and had it in a small box all the time... finally decided to take some photos of it.
I have no idea what that strange stuff above the mandibles is.
