The Dark Ranger arrived from open space and decided to stay on Earth to fight crime. His space suit protects him from the poisonous atmosphere of Earth and his alien blaster allows him to atomize any living being - but it is always set to stun. That is what the Dark Ranger willingly tells anyone after catching a criminal. And he always repeats several times that he came from space. He is not from Earth! Well...wishful thinking. In reality he came from Boston, his outfit is unsuitable for airless environment and his alien blaster is actually an Earth-manufactured neuro-stunner (like the ones used by the security stuff at Project Cadmus) decorated to look alien. Dark Ranger's true name is Ray Terril, and he has never been in space. But why the facade? Well, long time ago Ray met an actual alien - not an agressive invader but a terrified refugee. Ray befriended the alien despite being unable to understand alien speech. One day Ray returned home - and saw his alien friend dead. It wasn't an accident - the alien was murdered. Soon the local TV channel aired the newsflash - "An unknown hero exterminates alien invaders". All neighborhood hailed the unknown hero who killed Ray's friend and several other aliens - but Ray himself suspected something fishy. He created the identity of the Dark Ranger to lure the so-called "hero" out - and avenge his alien friend.
