For Trixie Day 2018 I drew this little scene.
With her outfit and difficulties to perform actual magic Trixie is pretty much begging to be put into the place of the Sorcerer's apprentice of the famous poem by Goethe (made known in the English speaking world mostly through Mickey Mouse playing that role in Fantasia). The discorded broomstick floating in the teacup based flood is another reference to that poem. The teapot pouring out over Starlight (protected by Twilight's spell) is another case of Trixie messing up Twilight's tableware and I leave it to the viewer to decide whether it was well intended or mischievous mocking on Trixie's part

Which might be one reason why she is leaving this for her apprentice and her apprentice's apprentice to deal with. Something along the lines of "been there, done that, let this lesson of friendship be taught and learned by them without me interfering too much"

Damn, Trixie fucked up in a big way, yet Twily ain't even mad, more like embarrassed, like when she'd be when seeing her friends engage in lesbian activity.
Btw, Trixie is missing her cutie mark.

I daresay Twilight is by now good enough at magic that she could probably jinx the water away or wherever it is supposed to go without too much trouble. She might even feel a little schadenfreude. Perhaps she enjoys a moment in which she can leave the cleaning up to Starlight and Trixie while she can play the role of the mentor and only get involved if absolutely necessary (much like Celestia did sometimes).

It may not be so much about suffering as it is about learning from experience. Starlight too can probably get rid of the water without too much trouble, but Twilight may be interested in the talk that her apprentice Starlight may have with her own apprentice Trixie

Yeah, I wonder if Twilight is going to say anything about that teapot (and also if that was meant kindly, mischivously or meant at all by Trixie). Who knows if that broomstick had a hand in this too... it looks kind of suspicious

If you are referring to the discorded broom I am not even sure if I figured it out myself. I included it on the one hand as a reference to the original sorcerer's apprentice poem in which a broom plays the part of the teacups and on the other hand because where there is chaos I don't expect Discord would be far. I don't know however if in this case he is actually a proprietor of the chaos or just enjoying the show provided by Trixie.

I would be surprised if nobrony else drew the link between the very sorcerer's apprentice like looking appearance of Trixie and the sorcerer's apprentice based on the appearance in Fantasia, but I did get the basic idea without it being directly inspired by the work of another brony. As for the poses of the characters they borrow from poses shown on the show before (Trixie's pose for example resembles that of Derpy after she dropped a piano on Twilight in "Feeling Pinkie Keen").
