Well, guys, it's the end of 2019 - I've been making Riders for several years, and the last one of 2019 is special because I get to return to my roots with Wizard, tackling a Rider type I never got to try out: The Beast aesthetic.

Lycos is a bit of an old idea too, I probably first thought of him when I WAS making Wizard characters - he was originally conceived as a werewolf motif, with the idea that he had a "human" mode and a wolf mode, and up until I started sketching out this iteration, there were still going to be ears on the helmet that folded down because of soon-to-be-revealed reasons... but I wanted to streamline it and make it feel more official.

Being that the Archetype mages are ancient, I wanted to give him a vintage look, so I used those skirt bits from Sorcerer - without using the full coat - to give him a vague Roman vibe. As I usually do with Foundation X dudes, I also tried pulling from stronger forms, and for reasons that will also make sense soon, the wolf face is on the chest instead of a shoulder mount.

Most notably though is the transformation style. The rings are attached to a wristband that spins like a roulette wheel (working in that gambling motif of Beast!), and plug into the wrist device on the other arm. Like Beast, he also has 4 Mantles to introduce. Since it's a wrist device, the belt is just an ornate thing, which I based on the Beast rings.

This was a fun one to really piece together. I also explored an avenue I've used for a commission and a yet-to-be-revealed Build thing, where it's a front facing model, not a sprite nor an angled shot - this is an approach I'll be taking anytime the design is a bit more complex and relies on symmetry to pull off. It's also the same scale I use for the Rider Card/RideWatch art, so that makes things easier for those.
