Description I just wandered why fantasy Elves never really adopted gunpowder considering how well it would fit their warfare style and their natural abilities as well as how their superior craftsmanship would enhance these weapons. Just starting to explore these concepts with small studies...

Very nice indeed!

I think there might be one interesting reason why: Training times. Longbows actually possess a few notable advantages over muskets. They're quiet, capable of indirect fire, and have a much greater rate of fire than muskets do. HOWEVER, it takes absolutely ages to train an archer. There's an old british saying 'To train a longbowman, start with the grandfather.'
But with guns and crossbows? Give a drill sergeant a few weeks and bam, you got yourself an effective fighting force. And since most soldiers fire in volleys as opposed to aiming like light infantry, accuracy doesn't matter so much.

BUT, considering we are talking about a race that may or may not be immortal, the issue of training times takes on a rather secondary concern to say the least.

But aside from that, we simply don't see much high fantasy set in 1600's-1800's levels of technology.

You’re missing the argument of penetration. If a dwarf decided to wear really heavy plate mail with a thick jupon ( cloth textile armor put over plate mail negating further the effect of the arrow much like the quilted armor of the aztecs- a demonstration can be shown here: youtu.be/DBxdTkddHaE ( start at the 22 minute mark)

Thank you very much!

I'm leaning to pretty much the same conclusion. I've given a detailed answer on Cyklopi's comment, I invite you to read it for further explanations of my ideas on the subject

Never understood, either. Elves generally fit the "Naturalist" or "Environmentalist" role so they tend to avoid weaponry like this in fiction, even though, considering their talents, they'd totally adopt muskets in warfare c:

This sort of thing is exactly what I'm exploring in my flintlock fantasy stories, in fact.Β  I really like the design of everything.Β  Automatic favorite and worthy of both a watch and a South American camelid.Β  Because llamas are a thing on Deviant Art.

I agree with the others that we need more Napoleonic/industrial fantasy stuff like this. Excellent job!

Stunning work! Love your coloring style, and the variety of brush strokes you used. Am now really interested in seeing some sort of hard fantasy, pseudo Revolutionary War era battle. Like the movie Bright. . . but. . . good.Β

Love it! Very reminiscent of Flintloque by Alternative Armies, which is a tabletop wargame set in a Tolkienesque version of the Napoleonic Wars. The Elves are the French, Orcs British, Russians are Undead etc.

No joke, this is the first time I have ever seen an elf with a firearm like that before. Great job with this!Β

This is so cool, I really like the uniform and the cap decoration, now we must see Elven line infantry.

Β My guess is that, elves being so long-lived, they simply find it much harder to set aside what they know when it comes to something as inherently risky as Warfare; when you (not just your ancestors, but you personally) have been using Bows & Arrows et al for longer than many cities have been standing, Force of Habit must be very nearly as Powerful as the Laws of Physics!

Rifled barrel, of course! Nicely done, not least on the scenery and symbol on the cap.
