Description What Disney wouldn't show. Small mammals do NOT handle trauma well, and can die from shock once the adrenaline wears off. Dawson probably saved Basil's life.

wow harsh stuff!
you know, i enjoy a little of drama (well, maybe a lot!) it is cool the idea of Dawson habing to reanimate basil once they get to the ground; it would have still be cool if he was just treating his wounds and he looked actually hapy it all came out well.
after all, he is a doctor!

I love this. I love the realism, the balance of keeping Disney characters looking like themselves while taking their design a step farther. I love the real emotion, the overall tone of the piece, and your technique with colored pencil.ย

I wonder, would it be all right if I wrote a fanfiction based on this work? The imagery just gives me so much closure to that part of the film that I would like to share it, if I may.ย

Wonderfully done!

I love how you drew in a style that's like the movie while adding in the features that weren't included such as the whiskers and claws.ย  It just adds to the very pretty "missing scene" that would've been so cool to see.

You know, when I was younger I never stopped to think how badly Basil must have been hurting after that fight on the clock tower. Re-watching that scene as an adult, it's pretty brutal.

This picture is pretty much what I think happened after Basil pedaled his way back up to the balloon. A shame Disney can't show this kind of stuff, as I am a huge sucker for whump.

That is a good point, on top of a beautiful coloring job. I'm particularly drawn to how you've got Basil laid out, the humanity of expression is there along side a very obviously rodent form. I find it very striking.

oh wow! did not know that- um, though it makes since, I wonder if that's how my rabbit died; it was under a lot of trauma when it was attacked by a cat. (I may have saved it from the kitty, but it still happened to die in my arms-this would explain why)

Great picture! creepy, but still good.

... I am having a lot of feelings concerning this one. Lots and lots of feeling. It's a great drawing, most certainly, and I will of course applaud your dedication (am I wrong ore are those pastels? As in, pastel chalks? Artist pencils or however people call them these days? If so, you are my hero for getting such PERFECT, PERFECT LINES!) but Basil... BASIL! ;A;

Thank God this is Disney.

It's colored pencil, just very heavy. I debated for a while whether or not to put this one up due to the not-happiness of it.

I am so going to hell for saying this but I AM GLAD YOU DID! I likes me my angst. I always likes me my angst And this movie doesn't have nearly enough angsty-fanworks around

There's a special kind of beauty to these king of works if you ask me. I both kind of breaks your heart and keep you... "there". Can't really explain it but it's just an awesome feel

Oh wow, this is almost got me teary-eyed for a moment. I love how you decided to draw them more like their mouse selves. I absolutely love the details you put into this as well. And you know, I never knew that about smaller mammals. Poor Basil. Wonderfully done overall.

ALS123 [2012-01-31 23:34:50 +0000 UTC]

Aw, poor Basil! Wow, I didn't know that about small mammals not handling stress well. I'm sure that beating he got from Ratigan must have taken quite a toll on him. And it's interesting to think what might have happened between the Big Ben scene and the next scene where they're back at Baker Street and saying goodbye to Olivia and her father. Anyway, you've done an excellent job on this, with the colors and showing the emotions of the characters. Excellent work!

That's very true! And poor Basil all helpless and stuff! Makes me want to cuddle him, though it would be a bad idea since he got beaten to a pulp by a huge rat.

Brinatello [2012-01-31 05:46:06 +0000 UTC]

Wow, this is a very painful moment to view. You've drawn it with much realism, too. They look far from their Disney selves and that probably helps make the mood all the more tense. What happened exactly? It looks as though they all got down to the ground from the balloon unharmed, but then all of what Basil went through hit him harder than he could handle. It's a good thing Disney made them more like humans with mice bodies. That's probably what saved Basil from dying from the shock. That, and he just couldn't die. I like this. It's sad to look at him lying there so helpless with the others grief-stricken, but I think you did a good job capturing emotions here.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Maple--wolf In reply to Brinatello [2012-02-01 03:12:34 +0000 UTC]

Whiskers and fur detail make a big difference in appearance. The story here is that the balloon didn't hit the ground very gently, they were all knocked off, and Basil couldn't get back up for obvious reasons. Cue Dawson.
We all know he ends up fine though

Brinatello In reply to Maple--wolf [2012-02-01 10:13:26 +0000 UTC]

Indeed, almost a homage to the book illustrations. Parachute landings never look soft unless lowering oneself at an angle, like a drag landing as if they were up to a good running speed before touching the ground. Landing straight down would seem like the skydiver would do more injury to themselves. With this makeshift balloon descending, I can picture it being a harsh landing. Everyone is okay except, of course, Basil, who wasn't from the start.
