This is my first entry to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo with Miami and River
Story~
River could not wait to show Miami in Texas. She was born there and moved away as a kid to Pennsylvania with her parents. When the opportunity came along for the pair to participate in the show, she took it. Miami was ready for a boost in his career after a long break in the pasture over the winter. Needless to say, he behaved like a charm when she caught him in the pasture, unlike another horse in the stable *cough* Romeo *cough*. She quietly lead him towards the barn, shaving some definition into his coat in some slight areas and shaving his whiskers, which he was not happy about. She combed through his mane and braided it, continuing to his tail where she evened the tips out at his mid-hocks. Finally, she put on his shipping equipment and led him into the trailer. Soon, they arrived at the airport and Miami was boarded on the plane. River watched as ERS's tack trunks were hauled onto the luggage compartment. She yawned and trotted up the stairs into the plane, laying back in her chair with her headphones on. Hopefully the ride to Texas wouldn't be too long.
~~~~~~~~
River awoke to the sound of engines blaring. She peered out the window onto the runway, and as the flight attendant opened the door, a gust of hot air blew in. She stood up, removing her earbuds quickly and stuffed them in her backpack. She climbed back down the stairs, and was met by a blustered Miami. He snorted and moved to the side at the sight and sound of the plane engines, tossing his head furiously as if to say "Get me out of here!" River laughed and began to walk him towards the small garage underneath the airport where the staff had set up a few stalls with shavings in them for the horses to rest while the owners got their luggage squared away. She put him in a stall and watched him roll around in the shavings, glad to be on the ground again. River went up the escalator towards the first floor, where she grabbed a bagel and her many show trunks were loaded into a pickup truck out front. Finally, she grabbed Miami and loaded him onto the trailer, sitting down in the pickup next to the driver. "Houston Livestock Show Barn Area, please." She smiled at him as he grinned and turned out of the airport.
~~~~~~~~
Soon they arrived at the barn area, after an hour or so of driving through the cities of Texas. She unloaded him, and the driver carefully set her trunk in front of Miami's stall. She locked him in, before drinking some water and taking off his tack. He was clearly hungry, because he immediately began eating hay and water. "Get used to it boy, we're gonna be here for awhile."He snorted pleasingly, and tossed his head as if he knew what she was saying. She began vigorously brushing him off and re-braiding his forelock. Finally, the end of the day was here, and she grabbed her suitcases and trudged off towards the hotel.
~~~~~~~~
The next morning, River began dressing in her western show attire. It included a black jacket and pants, the jacket was covered in black sequins and glitter, typical of a western show shirt. The pants were just formal halter pants. And her white cowboy boots and hat had come along just for the occasion! She grabbed a quick lunch in a paper back from the hotel's restaurant, and grabbed a cab to the barn area again. When they arrived there, River flashed her plastic lanyard with her face on it. She felt like a zombie, walking in towards Miami's stall. He snorted and nickered in delight when she arrived at his stall, swishing his tail. She unlocked the show trunk and took out his silver-plated halter, snapping it on. She attached a leather lead shank and walked him out of the stall, peering around for someone to help. Finally, a worker arrived. He looked exasperated, wiping his brow and patting down his hair. "Excuse me, could you show me where the Reliant Center Arena is?" He pointed to the left, and she walked off in that direction. There was the halter class. She waited outside the ring before walking in. "Here we go!" she whispered into his ear, which was turned to the side in her direction.
