Haha, how would like that mouthful of teeth coming at you? I wouldn't, that's for sure!

Nice job! I've done this with my own dogs before, I'd suggest using a back tie (I do it on a tree) so you don't have the distracting person in the background. If you can do as good a job in this photo as a back tie one you'd get the same effect of no leash/no collar.

That's a good idea.. problem is that was not my dog... she was crazy to get a piece of me... for real! Couldn't tie her to a tree cause the leash would break apart, from the blows. I was a withing two feet from her... that would spell disaster. But if it's your own dog... I totally agree with you!

Kildrae In reply to marcelomb [2011-04-20 00:15:24 +0000 UTC]
So you wouldn't trust the leash to be tied to the tree but you trust it with a person holding it? What the hell is the difference? If the leash was that shitty you were asking to get hurt BADLY. Really doesn't matter what's at the end of the leash as long as it's secure.
I haven't just done this with my own dogs; this is he best way to get barking photos IMO. But I would NEVER do any bitework (for training or photography) with equipment that I couldn't trust. One way ticket to the ER.

Gee, Kildrae, itβs a long storyβ¦ in a nutshell, the thing isβ¦ the guy behind the dog is an experienced dog trainer and that dog is an award-winning highly trained Melinois. So, I felt safer having him hold her than tying the leash to a solid, inflexible object, which would cause more strain on the equipment, which hadnβt won my complete, 100% trust. I rest my case! Thanks for the comments!

I'm just flabbergasted that you'd use equipment that wasn't 100% and risk some nasty puncture wounds for a photograph.
Just an FYI, I'm sure this guy isn't the only experienced dog trainer out there with a trained Malinois. Having been in the industry long enough and seen enough titled, "award winning" dogs really doesn't mean anything to me. It doesn't matter which teeth do the damage, imo. I'm simply dumbfounded that you'd risk serious injury for this. To each their own.
Again, great photo.

Well Sera our malinois is now almost 2, very sweet dog to us as 'pack leaders' and also to our cats, but she's very difficult with other people and dogs. With people it takes allot of time and effort will she accept the new 'group member', as for other dogs she just to way to 'dominant/defensive'. But let me stop before this gets too long greets!

Oke I know its allot about body langauge and we've read allot of books and talked to allot of people with good intentions, but in the end no real result.

Well, for one it's in their blood... the instinct of attacking and protecting their owner. But of course they're well trained for this. My friend Renato Bueno is the responsable for perfecting this dog's attacking skills. She's really good.

Now that is a nice working Belgian Malinois. My dog is half mal, half shepherd. She's a big baby now, but she did used to be, lol.

Is it a malinois?

Sorry! A mistake. I meant to say I was told it's a Belgian Shepherd ... NOT a German Shepherd.
Now, I'm really not sure about the difference between a Malinois and a Belgian Shepherd.

Umb In reply to marcelomb [2007-05-23 13:57:04 +0000 UTC]
Oh! Well, malinoises are belgian shepherds. There's 4 different kind of those and malinois is the belgian shepherd with short fur
