Description
I'm knee-deep in a painting competition at the moment. The task is to pick a master's self portrait and do a caricatured study from it, being as accurate to the original in value, colour, and composition as possible. Naturally, I chose Sargent. It took me about 8 sketches to get to this point, which is the full value study. I did this digitally, but the final painting will be in oils, and in colour. You can the Sargent painting I'm using as my reference here:[link]

Mind if I use this as an example(Values) in a school assignment? I have to create a designer's glossary. You'll be credited next to the image.

Heh, in a side by side comparison we can easily identify where the cariacture elements come from.
The expression of grandeur or almost "aloofness" is accentuated excellently in your interpretation, eyebrows raised further and head tilted back - Sargent examines himself and the viewer with a curious suspicion. The eyes are fantastic.
Perhaps his beard seems a little skewed on his right (our left). One would expect such a rise on the other side, too.
