This would be a little more fun if attention was payed to the rule of thirds and the image wasn't out of focus.

I play by my own rules,
I don't follow anyone elses rules,
not even my own.

AMEN, Brother!
I see the "Rule of sixths" in the vertical, and the "Rule of Fifths" in the horizontal, and if one *must* interpolate the "Rule of Thirds," her bosom and her outstretched arm, and her vertically stretched limbs fall nicely on the lines.
As for focus, it couldn't be more perfectly executed. The striking element of this piece is not the girl, although she is a natural beauty in her own right, but her surroundings. the sharp focus on the harshness of the wall contrast beautifully with the softness of your model's figure.
Well done! (and have "fun" with the "rules")!

So you're saying that if an image is out of focus, that is fine.

To add to whats been said, i agree that the photo is out of focus... and a more landscape crop (less square) with the model more to one side would have helped the composition i feel on this occasion.. though i will say that sometimes stepping out of the rules can work also.. photography is an art after all so have fun with it too.. some things will work, others wont.

Thanks for your feedback.
I felt the pose lent itself to a square crop in this instance, maybe right, maybe wrong.
Also the model is in focus but I applied some skin smoothing to the model and some sharpening to the background to exaggerate the difference, obviously didn't work for some people, and I appreciate the feedback.

I like both the landscape and square-crop ideas. For square-crop I would add more of the background minimizing the model (unless of course the current crop is the full-frame on the short dimension).
The contrast between the softening of the model against the sharp background is supurb, and a larger slightly larger crop in either frame would accentuate this.
Excellent work on the photo!

The original shot was landscape format and this is the left-side of the frame, no more height available and nothing more to the left either. The distressed paint seen at the right of this composition got more severe to the right in the original shot and I thought this was distracting.
Really appreciate your thoughts and feedback, thank you

Oddly, I like to experiment with the subject facing away from center (breaking god-knows-what-rules with both interesting and disastrous effect). Just how "harsh" was the background to the right? and would a right-landscape produce an even more striking contrast? Greatly intrigued now...
