Description
The steady hum and glow of six impulse-stardrives fill the engine room. Conduits and piping, electrical coils, and the drums of computing machines grow like vines of a jungle from every surface, wall, and ceiling, as though they seek to overgrow and devour every last space of the deck. Only the engineers can see what elegant order, what highly efficient designs govern this sprawl of technology where most of their time is spent.
At the rows of consoles and diagnosis, tables flicker diagrams of the ship in false colors, illustrating independent systems, their status, and endless reams of data on their performance. Distilled into concise reports, so much of this information flows into the command center and the positronic core, where the electrical mind of the vessel selects the data relevant to command and crew. For all the complicated, high technology, it functions at the end of the day like a well-oiled machine.
