Description
Project 1135 Burevestnik (eng. Storm petrel) is a series of frigates and guard ships (patrol boats) built in the Soviet Union primarily for the Soviet Navy and Red Army Spaces Forces since the 2270s. Sub-branches of the class were designed for orbital patrol by the KGB Border Troops. Outside of the USSR, these ships are commonly known by their reporting class name of "Krivak" and divided into subvariants I, II, IV (navy), and Krivak III (coast guard) classes.
Design and Role
Because of several design elements resembling those of larger cruisers and its prominence on many less developed worlds of the Union, the Burevestnik has earned the nickname "poster cruiser" among sailors. The vessel has indeed been used as a symbol of the Soviet Navy's strength and determination to defend all territories of the Union by the administration.
With a serviceable deck gun, missile systems, and limited airwing, the class fields a versatile arsenal fit to address most situations. This lack of specialization, however, also limits the ship's capabilities in every role. In most systems, the Burevestnik serves as a garrison and orbital guard vessel, maintaining a notable military presence without any commitment of more vital resources.
In conventional fleet engagements, Project 1135 vessels operate groups of six to eight vessels and typically combine their carried strike craft to one full air wing.
Variants
- Project 1135 Burevestnik (Krivak I): The design process for Project 1135 started as early as 2256 as a light artillery frigate. The role would change over the course of its development, which included changes to the drive-section, hangars, and primary armament of the vessel. Main building yards were Zhdanov Yard, Yantar Yard, and Kamysh Burun Yard.
- Project 1135M Burevestnik M (Krivak II): The second iteration of the Burevestnik was fitted with deck guns of a higher caliber and a redesign of their deep-space sensor arrays.
- Project 11351 Nerey (Krivak III): The Orbital Guard variant of the Burevestnik replaced the missile system with advanced drone launch bays for enhanced utility. The hangar was refitted to accommodate larger gunships instead of interceptors. These vessels were intended for Soviet Border Troops under the KGB.
- Project 11352/11353 (Krivak IV): Project 11352/53 is a modernization of Project 1135. The refit involves replacements for the missile system, electronics, and sensor systems. Due to the high-cost increase for only incremental improvements of the vessel's performance, this refit has been adapted slowly.
Development
The design of Project 1135 was conceived as a successor to the Riga-Class, which dated back to the 2250s. Commissioned in 2271, the Bditelnny was the first vessel of Project 1135 and partook in the victory parade in the year of its debut.
The full number of Project 1135 vessels serving currently in the USSR has not been disclosed. Estimates are complicated by the introduction of various subclasses, one of which (Krivak III) was modified to serve the KGB Spatial Border Guard. Several more refits serve in various navies of the Soviet Republics.

Ah. I'm also interested in Navy vs "Coast" Guard livery.
