Description
In contrast to most ISA vessels of the first generation, the Celerity-Class was developed to fill a supporting role as part of a larger fleet. Designed to complement the weaknesses and strengths of much larger vessels such as the Victory-class and her successors, the Celerity was a highly effective heavy escort securing the flanks and rear of ISA formations.Equipped with mid-range and rapid firing weaponry, the vessel was specialized in fighting enemy fighters and corvettes, as well as dedicated attack wings of bombers and boarding capsules. To this end, it sacrificed most conventional ship-to-ship firepower against enemy capital vessels, leaving it dependant on the support of its heavier companion vessels in proper fleet engagements.
In rare cases, Celerity-Squadrons would also be stationed as a heavy guard force for military outposts and stations, which themselves took then the role of command, control, and mothership.
History and Controversy
Despite its strategic use, the Celerity-Class was seen as controversial by more conservative movements among the ISA as it was seen to undermine the nigh-mystical image of the original White Star fleet. These concerns had taken root ever since the Centauri War, where the Fleet previously seen as unparalleled in technology and strength had been significantly weakened by conventional Centauri Forces. The subsequent need for change in Anla-Shok force, as much as the opening of their ranks for all member species of the ISA, had been met with skepticism by some. To such a group, the Celerity became a symbol and was heavily protested during its introduction.
Nonetheless, the combined-fleet approached would eventually be adopted fully by the ISA, marking the future for the Anla'Shok rather than a puritan approach.
