A rumbling rose from deep within the ship. Bulkheads buckled under forces they were never built to withstand. Outside, the malevolent light cast the Arrowhead in sharp contrast against the fluctuating medium of space, and the edges of the vessel rippled like a mirage.
Further out, captain Meswa saw a jagged line drawn across space. Telescopes and sensors tried to register it to no awail. But his own eyes did not betray him. There was a rift, a tear in reality. And the abyss beyond.
On the bridge, alarms kept blaring, pulling him back into the moment. The computers were trying to keep up with mounting systems failure. Strapped to their stations, the crew did their best to keep the ship together. Short bursts of the thrusters jolted them back and forth, in attempts to stay away from the phenomenon.
