Ghost Rider is Robbie Reyes. Robbie and his younger brother Tyler have been alone for the longest time. His parents were the embarrassment of the Reyes family, as they were drug fiends who tried to sell Tyler for drug money. So Robbie took himself and his brother out of there. Then his estranged uncle dies. He goes to his residence to clear up some things, and sees that he was an old school American muscle car street racer. Also, he finds some troubling journals that describe in detail how his uncle, Roger Reyes had killed people, and was the mysterious serial killer known as the New York Demon that was active in the ‘80s. However, the Reyes brothers finally catch a break when Roger’s will turns out to entitle Robbie to his awesome American classic muscle car. Robbie takes it on a test drive one night, having his girlfriend watch Tyler, and the car catches on fire while going 80 mph! A flaming skeleton in racing attire appears in the passenger’s seat, and claims to be Roger. He tells Robbie that this is his real parting gift to the Reyes brothers, - the power of the Ghost Rider! Roger sticks around and at convenient times drives the car to help Robbie, but normally is just a mentally deranged annoyance to Robbie.
