I think it is too much strong coloured to be a "background": if I dropped something on it, I'd probably spend some minutes before findindg it!

I tried few times to make a Wp for my screen, but I always noticed that, yes, they looked fine. But in Illustrator or Photoshop! When I applied them to my desktop they changed completely: out of contest, icon hiding parts of WP, and so on...
I think you should project some areas where to drop icons...that's it
