Description
it always was disturbing, the flip side to the wholemermaid/siren myth... luring sailors to their watery
graves through songs and promises of sweetest
embraces...
really wanted to get that moment, that final moment
of consciousness... true love's first kiss, or dinner time
deeper below...
...this one i really like, and i really don't know if i'm
done with it yet... any thoughts?

This is simply amazing! The water, the poses, the textures on the tentacles - I've tried to draw something along these lines many times, and you've put my efforts to shame.

many thanks!!... but don't let me stop you, i was inspired initially by artists that were effortlessly capturing the underwater feeling in their art... I had to try this out for myself...it's very weird to draw floating, sinking, submerged elements...
for the longest time, i wasn't sure if it was finished.

This is really amazing. I love the overall layout and color that blankets the entire piece. I'm a huge fan of the siren myths and so this is a wonderful representation. Its much prettier this way than some of the stories of sirens being big birds with the head of a woman feeding on sailors. XD

thank you! The darkness of the ocean has always overwhelmed me... it's what you can't see, you know?
It was tough to deepen the colors, without getting too dark and without getting too blue.

Awesome! I never saw this one before...reminds me of Radiohead's "Weird Fishes". "I hit the bottom and escape..." Well, one can always hope, eh?

Eerie and seductive! The further the eye travels down, the more cloistered and suffocating you can feel it becoming. Poor Bootstrap Bill...
(on explaining the Siren myth to another)
"Sailors would dream of dying this way."
"Sailors who dream of dying that way are better off dead anyways."

Indeed...
The true mermaids of legend aren't like Ariel, these seduce men and kill them. It is creepy.

I love your artwork/style! It's so beautiful and yes, this theme is disturbing but you did a lovely job portraying the beauty and the horror of the ocean(it freaks me out...)
I love how you drew the clothes and hair...everything is so realistic and yet, it's comic-like

ah this is great! i was working on a similar evil-mermaid-killing-a-sailor image before i got sidetracked. love your waterworks and choice of light effects!! if you spent some more time on it i bet it would be even better.

thanks, yeah i was at a point where i was afraid of
over-doing it, and i am the WORST at spending time on art...
but its actually one of my faves...
you must un-sidetrack yourself, i'd love to see your take on the concept!

I hate those promises of sweetest embraces that end up being traps *S*, so true, so true, I love the story in this one. It looks good. I guess, if you're not done, a suggestion would be to make the water even darker at the very bottom? either way great job.

thanks... and good suggestion... i'm sorry i didn't make this piece really long... so the surface could be more hopeful, and
the bottom pitch black. i'll give it a whirl in shop tonight.
