so as you can see still a lot to do. have to figure out where to spend extra polys. wanted it to be out of different pieces so it could (hopefully) be destroyed and driven like GTA. still have to do the big piece that holds everything togetherRelated content

I started modelling a car once... to be honest, it was easier than I thought it'd be at first, but it soon got kinda messy and I got bored with it. xD But it did give me an overview of where things need to go... the bonnet in your's, for example, needs to be shorter, and also sloped... I'd invest most of the polygon budget in the doors and external details, which're the most recognised (and rely on bump maps for the interior of the car where possible).
The front of the car's good, but the top of it needs to come down so it's height isn't at the level of where the windshield starts. Also, some cars (depending on what chassis you're using) taper lengthways so the width of the bonnet's a little thinner than the middle of the car.
For the diagonals/hidden edges around the boot, I'd try having them wrap horizontally across the polygons so they can be tapered easier; it's just one of those preparatory things y'should try and take care of when working with low-res meshes that'll end up becoming more detailed someday. ^_~; But you're off to a good start, keep us updated.

damn man I've read this 3 times now and it's still not clear to me tapered, you mean the front and back should go more into a point?

LMFAO, yes, that's what Tapered means. XD Wider on one end, thinner on the other. Surely you know the term from the Taper modifier, yeah? :S
Aaanyway, yes... some car models have a sloped end and front (picture a Taper modifier with Symmetry enabled). If y'like, there's a great site with dozens of great blueprint models y'can use to reference.

When I get around to modelling a bitchin' looking vehicle in 3D, I'll most likely be working off something from that site. ^^

I do agree with the comment about the bonnet... it should be smaller than the actual width of the car.

Woah! Where's... the... roof... and the bottom...?
Nah, just kidding... Overall body looks quite allright, I just think you should place the wheels a bit higher and refine the 'whole' of the car a bit more. Did I see a 'split' between the frontfender and the body?
Anyways, looks quite good.. But I'm getting used to quite good, now make me go wow when you finish it!
Cheers

quite good is fine for you I places the wheels exactly how the wheels are in the picture, so it's an optical illusion!
the split is a chrome bit which I wanted to make from another part/put it in with the whole body
