Description
Soo I finally got to work on that car WIP I posted some time ago. Almost got it finished now! well - what is finished - the trouble is that I need to have a good talk with the programmer(s) of the game engine we're making so I know if we need all kinds of separate parts or not. next to that I still need some mirrors on the sidetriangle count 1989 (target was 2000
aand I used the same Vray settings as with my sparkplug because it just looks way better than it is

we could have multible texture maps for the car

Very nice work man. Looks really nice so far. You should add a smoothing angle to some of the edges though. Some are too sharp IMO.

In Maya it's soften/harden Normal Angles, in Max it's called Smoothing Groups, in Wings it's called "Auto-smooth" and in Lightwave it's called smooth threshold. Not sure about any other apps though.

oh I did those, only you can't really apply smoothgroups to faces that have more difference than like 70 degrees, because then you'll get weird shadows and stuff

Hmm.. Well, then you'll have to look into your modeling and add bevels to some of your sharp edges. Although, I still think a smoothing angle can work. I use it for everything.

Hmm.. I think I like it!
But still you shall make the corners a bit more "soft"
Ya I know I dont have any power to say that beacuse i can't do such a good job my self.. But It will give you one more start
Good job lad!

hehe I know but you mean, but I ran out of triangles to do that

Sorry but I dont understand?

I got a limit of 2000 triangles, I'm pretty close to that and don't want to do a lot more than 2000

Wait, you're telling me that you are going to make side view mirrors with only 11 triangles? You're crazy!
I am always amazed by low poly models. I am so bad at keeping track of my poly count, and as such, most of my models end up super complicated.

master3d In reply to Frenotx [2008-05-09 19:33:38 +0000 UTC]
haha well....yeah? no I first deleted some of the inner polys, and than added the side view mirror, but they are only 18 triangles each so that's not a lot

I added the side view mirrors (still need to add a rear view mirror) and the triangle count is now 1975 I deleted a lot

hehe the thing is that I wanna run an internship at a game company that specializes in games for the Nintendo DS, and the DS can only produce like 4000 triangles per frame, so that's 2 cars right now that's not a lot!

Great job!
Have you tried to put an TurboSmooth or MeshSmooth modifier on it? or will it become to complex for the game engine ?

master3d In reply to solid-Chroma [2008-05-09 12:43:41 +0000 UTC]
yeah that would be too big, we're very restricted to triangle count and meshsmooth like 10 folds that number
