One would think that critique would be aimed toward the technical aspects and the photographer's talent, as opposed to how conventional the model's body type was. If the model was overweight would the photograph have no merit? You seem to imply that for a photograph to have technical merit, the model has to meet certain aesthetic requirements. Maybe a good photograph has nothing to do with having a Barbie as a subject...

I agree. Every aspect of a model is perfect, whether or not it meets any individuals 'standards'. The fact that a women is or isn't 'conventionally' beautiful is what adds to the character of the shot.
Besides, persoanlly I think the outward bellybutton compliments her outward attitude that she's showing here.
