Description
KnightsCustomary Exile.
In the beginning you found that Aaron was banished from his homeland because he had turned fifty. That is a bit odd and yes I know, I realized it sounds a lot like judge dread after a while. In all truth, the custom is more for plot covenants than anything else, just to kick start the story. However I will explain the in story reason for it.
In Garmor, it is custom that a knight retires after the age of fifty. Furthermore they are expected to leave their homeland for a number of reasons. One reason is that the knight’s presence in the land becomes a liability for those close to him. Knights in there venerable twilight years have their enemies catch up to them. They may find that there families taken hostage or themselves held for ransom if not killed. A king who fails to save a beloved knight may fall sorely out of favor with the people. The most practical reason to send them away is many lose there value as there minds and bodies age further. A more sinister look finds that the more popular knights, heroes of the people may find that they could easily perform a cue and take control of the country or at possibly cause civil war or disorder. To send them away would help ensure the kings place of power. To put it bluntly, old knights are a useless liability and we would have now plot without this custom.
