Description
All these things we tried to discover, tried to keep,
tried to hideaway,
come to us eventually, even if we
tried to avoid it.
And it brings "awe".
Awe comes in all forms.
Shock, surprise, joy, appall, horror,
and sheer amazement.
The awe of a Youth has all of that.
What is discovered surprises them,
yet appalls them
because it is new, because it is strange.
They keep what brings them joy,
and yet suffer a horror
to ever lose that awe of happiness.
They'll hideaway what daunts them
and hope that never again
will their anxiety take control
as effortlessly as it did.
And it shocks them
to think they could be so amazed,
then make them think,
"What else can I find today?"
Or,
"What else can I avoid today?"
But the kind of awe that a child will rarely experience, until they no longer what they are, is the best awe of all.
It's the awe of understanding that there's a world beyond the senses,
beyond what we're told there is,
beyond life and death itself.
It's not like the mouth-gapping or wide-eyed expressions of wonderment.
No. This one is discreet. It's quiet and deep.
Rarely will you ever notice it,
but when you do
it'll shock you.
And it'll awe you.
