I absolutely love the idea of post disaster photography. Working in the restoration business for quite some time, I have seen all sorts of scenes such as this, and have also found something oddly picturesque about them.

The lighting and colour are pretty much perfect here... The tapering effect of the light as you get closer to the camera, and the two main colours being black and a rather unpleasant hue or orange add a rather grim effect.

My only criticism comes from my experience with locations such as this. Though to most, this appears to be in a rather shocking state of disarray... It ends up being rather average to me, and I'm well aware that it gets much more grim and shocking than this (I assume that this photo is aiming to be beautifully grim).

Firstly I'd like to point out how cleverly the resolution of the photo was manipulated. One glance at this and you could almost see it as a painting, digitally blown up onto a canvas. A vision as detailed as this does not simply just come to one's mind. This is probably the reason why it made such an impact on the audience. The intricacy and loneliness just bounces off the computer screen at you.
Secondly, the feeling of has-been luxury does come through from the photo. The feel of a certain amount of class is definitely there.

The third thing I'd like to mention is the warm light coming in from the window and the grey peeling walls. This brings out an odd but resonating effect of the mixtures of light blending in together harmoniously. The lighting is sort of a delicate balance between yin and yang in my opinion. Also, fixture of lighting isn't quiet harsh despite the clarity of detail.

The only tiny issue with this photo I'd like to point out is the right bottom corner. Although the chair was a good touch to add to the photo, the piece of metal (?) and the corner in general just throws the photo slightly off. I understand it might be slightly less focused than the rest of the photo because it simply wasn't meant to be the focus of the photo. Don't understand my point? Well, breaking it down, I see a highly detailed photo with a blurred right bottom corner. The photo should either be only focused on one thing (eg. the bed) or completely focused on the whole frame. This means either the bed is the only thing that pops out at you or that the whole photo should pop out at you at once, not just three quarters of the photo. It leaves too little a percentage of the photo unfocused and a part of the photo feeling unfinished.
This could very well be an oversight because naturally, your eyes would only be drawn to the walls, the bed, the floor and the draping light (?).

Next time it would be quite worth it to take a photo from different angles, playing around with the point of views.
Overall, this is a brilliant photo, one that is worth a DD. Like the others have said, it makes you wonder what happened there. To me, it also make me wonder what other sights did you witness in this building? What made you pick this particular room or if this room looks like this, what does the others look like?

Thank you very much for that very thoughtful critique!
I usually try to let the critiques work for their own without adding whether my personal intentions were the same or not, because i don't want to influence the personal art experience and thoughts people might have about my works.
Therefore, let me just say something to the rather blurry corner
It is actually not just that particular corner but more or less all corners that are slightly blurred, simply caused by the lens i used. Corner sharpnes is not really something that can be listed on the pro side for this lens. However, I have to admit that i could have sharpened that particular part more, it is less apperent in the original resolution, and i guess i just missed that. Thank you very much for the tip on this issue, i always appreciate these kind of hints (sometimes I just pay attention to all these details in full view without taken the resized versions in consideration enough). Oh and by the way, the object is a burned door of the closet on the right, therefore I wanted it to be included in the composition

No problem at all Ahh that's an interesting approach.

Oh I see, the resized version shouldn't come as much of a difference. It is a small detail though. The rest of the picture can be quite captivating

This is an amazing shot. The colors and lighting, as well as the fact that there seems to have been a fire in the room, yet there are still pieces of furniture arranged as though someone is still living there give the image an otherwordly quality (there is still a fluffy looking pillow on the bed!). I love the translucent melted light fixture and the warm orange glow coming through from the window. The entire shot is very surreal and reminds me of similar shots of abandoned spaces where it seems people left in a hurry (Chernobyl). Makes me want to know what happened here. Well done.

Well, what can i say, the color is extremely well done, the environment seems to have this lost and abandoned feeling, like this place was forsaken, forgotten. The way some of the elements seem to still be fine, like the TV and the chair, give it this atmosphere of "This place may be abandoned but it is still livable", The paint peeling off the walls and the window that is missing gives it an effect that "This place is open and free, no rules, do whatever we like". It also has this sub-atmosphere of "Lonely days and lonely nights, here is will be spending them". With the forest in the background and the light softly flowing in, this picture deserves a definite 5 Stars, it captures the complete effect of "Alone and abandoned, in this forsaken place." This fully deserves an special award.

You should have broken the TV set and burnt that armchair (or at least damaged it in some way) before taking the picture

Just kidding. This photo is great.

You'd be surprised by how things of delicate electronic structure can endure. The laptop I'm using in this very moment survived a house fire, it was in a room that was effectively an oven, and was dripping water when I took it away after the fire was put down. Now it works like nothing happened! And this is just a cheap second-hand Chinese-made laptop.

So yes, this TV could be working perfectly. Breaking it to add more value to the photograph would have been a nice gesture. As for the armchair, well, I sat on things that were in much worse conditions! So it is still doing its job, too.
