He tripped and stumbled in the darkness, his feet slipping against the wet grass. The darkness surrounded him, leaving him unable to see. The hill was steep but he had to continue across it. In the distance he knew the tree line wasn't far away, for him it signified freedom. Over his loud breathing he could hear movement in the distance behind him, they knew he was there. Suddenly a flare was shot up into the sky, its light poured into the area, illuminating him and everything around him. "There, there! I see him!" he heard a man shout followed by an encore of barking dogs. He could now see the forest ahead of him. "It's too far..." he thought to himself, as he forced his tired legs to move even faster. "Amelia..." he muttered as he ran. "I'm sorry..." Over the mound behind him came the sound of helicopter blades ripping through the air, followed swiftly by a spotlight being fixed to him. "Amelia..." A gunshot rang through the night air, the spotlight remained fixed on a single point. "We got him, over." Radioed a member of the pursuing party. The helicopter left and the group retreated, returning the mountain fields to their previous calm and tranquillity.
Seven Weeks Earlier
"You know I've never been too keen on reality TV..." joked one of them men in the back of the army jeep. "Yet my wife makes me watch it constantly!"
"Stop complaining, I mean I'd watch hours and hours of it if I could go home and see my wife again." Interrupted another soldier.
"What about you Kai? You got someone at home waiting for you?"
"No, I'm only twenty, I didn't want to get tied down." He laughed.
"Good man!" another soldier laughed, patting him heavily on the back. The six of them continued talking as the jeep jetted through the broken streets. The once beautiful city of New York now was nothing more than ruined brick and mortar. This was not uncommon to those in the jeep, it had been getting worse and worse for the past four years. "So Kai, how come you're over here? I mean you're British right? Why stay and help us?"
"I got detached from my regiment in the chaos of the seventh battle for New York. It was soon after that that British troops were recalled home to protect their homes, I missed the transports and, well, as you all know it's not easy getting across the Atlantic by yourself so I had to make do."
"You'll be going home soon though right? I mean the UEA are redeploying in Europe, the battle for New York is over now, right?"
"That's what we said the last eight times." Joked a soldier.
"But seriously, it's not fair that you can't protect your own homeland."
"I'll be heading home soon. I've found another British regiment that has been stationed near Washington DC and will be moving out in about a week or so. The Commander has said I can leave tomorrow and head towards DC, meet up with the regiment and get myself back to Britain."
"You're gonna do that by yourself? I mean outside of New York there are snipers and groups just littering the state, you can't just get in a car and drive out, you'll be killed. I mean it's not just down the road! You'll have to go the long way as well as Philadelphia isn't exactly quite at the moment."
"I know Will, but I have to try. I mean, what would you do if you were stuck in Britain and you knew America wanted all her soldiers back, you'd try your hardest to go home and defend what you love, I have to try."
"At least let me come with you then."
"You can't the commander will never let you leave on a silly mission like that." Jumped another soldier.
"Kai has done a lot for us, he's saved our lives countless times and once I think he even helped out the commander, he'll let me go if Kai asks."
"Will, if you come with me, you could die." The jeep suddenly stopped. "No, if you come with me you will die, I mean once I leave with my regiment, are you going to just waltz back up here?"
"I'll go with you."
"What?!" they shouted collectively.
"You can't, don't you want to fight for America, here?" stared Kai.
"I've been fighting for America for four years, besides, they're withdrawing to the west coast for now, our regiment isn't even going to be there so for now everything is secure here and if you could manage to end up fighting for us for nearly a year I'm sure I could do the same." Smiled Will as the lot of them jumped out of the jeep. "It can't do any harm asking the commander now could it?" Will laughed as the group of them walked into the makeshift barracks.

"You want to do what?!" shouted the Commander, staring blankly into the faces of the two standing men.
"I want permission to leave the regiment, join up with Kai and his regiment and fight in Britain."
"Why?!"
"I feel I've done what I can here and Britain has helped us through the war and I think its time to return the favour. Besides the regiment isn't going anywhere and intelligence suggests they're redeploying in Europe so they could use an extra pair of hands."
"Under normal circumstances, I'd say an outright no Sergeant, however under the current circumstances and the fact that the Captain should be covered in medals for his work here, I'll grant your request. However, there is one catch, I want daily or at least every other daily, reports on the movement of enemy and allied forces in Britain."
"Sir?"
"I want to know if the British are doing well or if we're going to have to deal with a majority UEA Europe."
"Yes Sir."
"Right gentlemen, you'll be leaving early tomorrow morning. I've plotted the route you should take, here, I want you to firstly go east towards Pittsburgh then south to Washington as we're not in full control of Philly yet, although we're nearly there and its only a matter of time, It would be safer for you to go around the city, now, good luck gentlemen, God's speed."
