Description
This story is set tens of thousands of years in humanities future. After terrible wars and the near extinction events wiped the number of people to mere thousands. It has taken centuries for man to recover from the epic wars. Ghostly shells of space junk still roam the atmosphere, occasionally lighting up the sky in a brilliant blaze, huge ruined steel monoliths still stand as a testament to humanities former glory. For those who are left, a new age has begun, one without technology, one of a new bronze age. For what remains, humans know only tiny percentages of what their history has to offer. The world has recovered; the plants grow once again without fear from radiation, the people now free to wander the earth as they choose.There are three major politic groups now vying for control. These people are each from one of the three major human pockets that survived the event known as Black Sky where the world cooled by over 10 Celsius and over 95% of humanity died out.
1) Etrupe;
Capital: Marseille
Total estimated population: 7 million.
Derived from the word European, these people were first to re-colonise the central and northern sections of Europe after the fall in radiation levels meant crops could be grown there. Their lands stretch from a now continental Britain and Ireland, to what was the beginning of Eastern Europe, and from Denmark to Southern Italy, Spain and Greece. Although once a thriving part of the world, it is the most poverty stricken of the major nations, often relying heavily on the goodwill and often demanding nature of the Pictorians. Their culture replicates that of Ancient Rome as many of their cultural details has come from Pictor.
2) Pictor;
Capital: Alexandria
Total estimated population: 13 million
Although their language would sound similar to a 21st century language known as "Spanish" they hail from a pocket in the Middle East, that was one of the most habitable areas during the Black Sky event. Therefore it is true that these are the people who hold the most power in the New World, with rich and fertile lands now stretching from Western Turkey into and Beyond India and even as far south as Kenya, this is the most powerful nation. Although large amounts of history have been lost, Pictor have retained knowledge of Ancient Rome and Greece, giving them a supreme advantage both culturally and technologically.
3) Miyanis;
Capital: Maputo
Total estimated population: 5 million
The final major political power to emerge, although living in isolation for several millennium before the passages to North Africa became available, this nation ruled over itself peacefully. Inhabiting Southern Africa and the now many Volcanic islands dotted around the southern tip. Their culture is entirely unique, however, it is a subtle blend of both Pre-Spanish South America and Samurai Japanese culture.
Several areas of the planet are still uninhabitable; North America, South America, Australia, Northern areas of Scandinavia and large sections of what was once Russia. These were places worst affected by the final world war that caused Black Sky. However as most of the information of the event was lost to the New World, each culture has a different take on what happened.
Miyanis people are the most spiritual as violent eruptions and earthquakes that shook the southern end of Africa caused a Godly being to be invented.
Pictorians have held on to some information from the pre-Sky era. They are aware that it was a man-made event; however any other information is merely speculation. They are not a people of religious tolerance or spirituality, in total contrast to their Miyan cousins to the south, they are not spiritual in anyway.
Etrupians have a mixture of both; however their spirituality is much different to that of a Miyan, since early contact with Pictorians was established spirituality has not been completely absorbed in to the culture, however it is still prevalent. With the majority view being that man did have a hand in causing a spiritual "council" of Gods, to intervene and punish the people that remained.
Map Explaination
Above is a rough outline of the borders that states have. Red is the Pictorians, Green the Etrupians and the Brown the Miyanis. The section in between Pictor and Miya is the "Deadzone" although now a thriving area for trade, neither side has yet agreed which nation should have the dominate claim to it, it remains a severe bone of contention that sours the relationship between the two.
Tribes and mini-states remain outside the major three, especially in Eastern Europe, where raids into Etrupe lands are common. Pictor, its borders although more fortified, are still at risk from those living just outside its dominion. Miyanis however is untroubled, as it has no borders where "savages" reign.
The Channel sea no longer exists with a thin thirty mile strip of land now connecting Northern France and Southern England together. (For sheer simplicity, I shall refer to specific geographical detail in the 21st century sense.)
Pictor extends into what was China although the eastern coast is still showered with harmful chemicals and radiation from the destruction of Japan during the war. No nation has yet fully explored the world, South America has been discovered by the Miyan and the Miyan only, who only have limited knowledge in that they are aware that they exist and that colonisation anytime soon would be foolhardy. North America and Australia remain undiscovered, with Miyan sailing technology, the finest on offer, still unable to make long term sea voyages.
The year stands at 472, which is 24,780AD. It has been 472 years since all nations agreed a single consistent date. Although discovered after the beginning of this calendar, the Miyans have adopted it as their own as their own calendar often failed to account for the seasons and within several decades winter would be summer and vice versa.
