He held her tightly, his body providing warmth in the pouring night rain. His tears were obscured, mixed with the rain. Thunder drummed nearby, occasionally destroying the near perfect silence. Only the blazing fire in the distance and the sharp light of the moon lit up the two of them. Her makeup had run down her cheeks, his glasses were cracked and both of their clothes had been all but shredded. No words could ever convey the feelings they felt for one another at this point for without the other, neither would be standing alive at that moment. Lightning shot across the sky, illuminating even the darkest corner of the muddy forest. He clenched his teeth in anger, fear and sadness, for now everything he had was lost, all but that which was right in front of him, she was now all he had left to fight for and fight for her he would, to his dying breath he swore to protect her. Again the lightning lit up the black sky. She caught a glimpse of herself in a nearby puddle, her face blackened from the fire, her hair singed and her clothes charred. She opened her mouth to speak but words failed her, so instead she gripped him even tighter as too her tears mixed with the cascading sky.
He took a moment, holding her slightly away from him, looking deep into her eyes. She stared back, her soft gaze in contrast to their surroundings. He moved gently towards her, stealing one moment from this hell, the moment their lips met, their problems, for a moment, became insignificant, nothing in the world mattered but them, nothing but that one moment, the moment two became one, the final moment in which they could believe that a life together was possible, that through all the adversity they would see it through. The thunder masked the gun crack, a single bullet flew through the air towards the happy pair. Together, forever.
