Description

It is often said that type A layers of Liminal Plane are distinguished by the fact that they have no sky. That is, however, only partially true.

Type A layers are comprised of the enclosed rooms and halls embedded in the solid concrete or stone, and don’t really have "outside" in a traditional sense – any doorway or window will only lead you into more halls. Trying to break through the walls or ceilings won’t lead outside either – you will just find yourself in more and more rooms, until eventually hitting the swath of solid material that seem to go forever. However, it is known that all layers, despite their immense size, are finite – and so very rarely, it is possible to find yourself in a structured region that is very close to layer’s upper border. From there, it is possible to ascend to the "roof" of the layer, where one can witness the so-called "upper void". Similar to the void supposedly seen from the side edges of layers B and C (which is theoretically accessible by simply walking in one direction for long enough), the upper void in a dark and featureless space that stretches upward for indeterminable length. Some had speculated that by flying into this void, one can reach other layers physically, rather than through the rifts – but for understandable reasons, this hypothesis wasn’t yet tested, and is unlikely to be so in the foreseeable future.

Rather often, giant stone pillars can be seen emerging from the layer’s terrain  and ascending into the upper void, where they gradually fade out of view. Climbing them was attempted a few times, but none of the attempts was successful. They are also incredibly stable – remaining completely unchanged through the numerous cycles of rearrangement.

Occasionally, noises can be heard coming from the upper void, sometimes described as resembling the whale song. It is currently unknowns is these are just an acoustic phenomena produced by the Limen itself, or if they are actually made by some kind of lifeform.

Even more rarely, strange shadows were reported to soar through the void – but their nature remains a complete mystery so far.
