Description

Life.

For as long as he had known it, for as long as he had experienced air filling his lungs and the beating of his heart pulsing blood into his veins, he had never known a purpose. So many had come into his life and so many had left it and yet nothing had ever changed to him. He had always viewed life as a vicious circle and due to the nature he was born with; he had never had another choice but to live as a predator in a constant hunt for adrenaline and pleasure. Yet, for as long as he had lived, he had also wondered. Behind the curtains within the dark depths of his mind, his life was but mere thought and contemplation; and a question he could not ever find an answer to.

For as long as he had lived he had been nothing and yet somehow he continued, his search endless yet clueless and directionless. There was no motive, no reason, only a why that forever haunted his mind - why must he exist, or why anything exist. Why must there always be a why. Truth be told however, why had been his only true companion throughout the seven years he had walked upon the earth.

Then came the sickness. Many wolves in his place would have perished, but he was above them. He had the chance to save himself and he had embraced it. Never would he forget the night he sought her out in the depths of the forest with the lingering scent of blood floating in the atmosphere and the sound of snapping jaws echoing in the distance, he remembered how she lay there amidst thick fog; her behavior unusual. Right there and then the two wolves had made a deal, a fair trade; it was his life for the life of Alar.

He was saved. But then came the why… Why had he been saved? Was it for more of nothing? He had not asked these questions back then, but throughout the many days he spent recovering his vigor in the darkness of a den, he began to ponder about it and for months the question went on unanswered. Every day he lived in Ranna’s presence had been a hell he had signed up for, it was a hell that changed everything.

Then came the revelation, pregnant. Ranna had been pregnant, and in an unforgettable night of screams and empty eyes; in a night of life and death, Mosrael was born - and somehow she survived. Lived and thrived in the chaos.

Now she laid by his side, her warmth against his side invigorating him. Her nose pink a perfect replica of his, her eyes blue like the skies he had always gazed upon in wonder. Now he looked at her; his little wonder.

For so long he had wanted to leave and abandon it all, but the sickness forbid him. Now he was healed, the powerful wolf he had once been was back, and yet he never turned their back on them - the reason remained beyond his understanding for long. But now he knew…

It had not been his negotiations nor Ranna’s hunting that had saved him. It had been Mosrael with her mesmerizing innocence, beauty and grace. His diluted red eyes gazed down upon her peaceful form; the very sight of her made his heart beat faster and filled him with lightness, sometimes he even thought he could float out of the den. Today he knew he needed her by his side. She was his’ in every way. His image, his daughter, his blood and his purpose. She was his why, and he could tear the entire earth apart for her.

Hot air exited his nose forming light clouds of steam in the air. Long had he awaited for the time he could leave the den behind, but he would not be leaving it alone. Today his daughter would truly become his, and only his.

Carefully he lowered his muzzle to briefly lick the top of his daughter’s skull. “Wake up my dear,” The pale wolf whispered softly, his red eyes watching attentively as her small ears flickered in response to the sound of his voice. Her blue eyes once opened, looked up at him in confusion, but the father only offered her a reassuring nod before proceeding to nudge her shoulder. “Come, up…” He insisted, his tone firm. “We are going on an adventure…”

“And we will not be coming back.” The male hinted without any further specifications about his intentions. “But what about mom?” Mosrael inquired with a low voice.

“Don’t think about her.” She won’t be a problem anymore. “We’ll only have fun from now on, now come.” Oruz concluded as he rose to his paws and crouched past the tight den entrance, his pale daughter following behind him much more effortlessly.

With a nothing but a quick, final glance at the den, Oruz turned and began to move away towards the forest, Mosrael following faithfully.

His everything had always been nothing, but today, his everything was her.

This was a collab between myself and my dear Wulfghast ! I sketched the characters, did the BG and shading for panel one and boxed in the BG for panel two! Wulf did the lines, shading for panel 2, final touches for the second panel's BG and final effects! We hope you guys enjoy!
