Description

I took advantage of the holidays and finally went to my favorite location to shoot some oil beetles and try looking for one handsome fungus beetle (Lycoperdina succincta). I have found all of the above, alas it was a really windy day and my handsome fungus beetle was blown away from me by a gust of wind, which is the most frustrating thing, that can happen. So moment of silence for my photo of this beetle please. The quantity of the oil beetle was lower than last year, probably because many females were laying eggs (and in order to do that they dig themselves a hole in which they hide their whole body, I was observing one Meloe proscarabaeus, that did this over the course of something like two hours).

This is the rare Meloe uralensis, which is one of the rarest beetles you can run across here, where I live.
