Description
Full view pretty pleaseThis is my final peice on my art project that I did on origami. I decided to do an abstract piece pretty much straight away because I love modular origami (though not so much anymore ^_^). None of the individual peices in the peice are my own designs, but alot are my own variations of a particular module. Obviously the general composition is my own :b.
You may be able to understand now with this, how my -o.ri.ga.mi- picture actually links to origami.
There are some smaller details in the piece that you cant really see that well, but my camera is like an antique so theres not much that I can do.
To get an idea of size, the three black pieces of card on the back are each A1 size (similar to US size D) so that means the whole thing is 178.2cm x 252.3cm or 70.17inches x 99.33inches.
Please don't crit. Im not gonna be able to change it so i don't wanna hear how it can be improved.
Enjoy!!!!!
Edit: After returning to the place where it is hung, I have discovered that this sculpture is no more...
well...it's still there, but upside down and falling apart...obviously it had fallen down and no one bothered to fix it before putting it back up again. And my art teacher wont let me take it home as he insists that it still looks great ¬¬

still, that's a shame.

I would have freaked and sued the art teacher if he didn't give me my artwork back.
no offense, its just that I would freak out like that.

I don't think so...I did this a very long time ago now and nearly all of the modules were just free diagrams found somewhere online (and I'd have no idea where to find them now). Sorry!

Most awsome thing I've ever seen
Your work is amayzing, and many of the pieces make me look at it as a steampuck-themed work. And boy, does my boyfriend love steampunk, and do i love origami. So I was thinking about doing something inspired on this piece for him but i cant recognise the modules you used... the tridimensional ones, what are they?

Meecho In reply to air-vamp [2010-07-19 13:02:54 +0000 UTC]
wow...thankyou so much! Its interesting that you see it as steampunk-inspired as it wasn't at all, but I really like steampunk too so maybe it was on a subconscious level!
Im afraid I cant help you much with the modules, the piece was done a long time ago and most of them were found by googling 'modular origami diagrams'. The white ones however (the three pieces that look similar just below the central one) are a module called 'Electra'. I got the instructions from a book, but you may be able to find some online.
Sorry I cant be of more help ~.~

Actually, I was just randomly googling what you said before I checked your answer xD and found the electra, recognizing it
Thanks for the help nevertheless, cuz that was what I wanted to base my piece on ^^ I'll show it to you when itΒ΄s done

Awesome!!
You are smart and great in playing with origami!
May I know how you paste the modular origami on the black card? just using glue?

Meecho In reply to giras0l [2010-04-13 12:31:22 +0000 UTC]
most of it was stuck together using pva glue, but the flatter bits used double-sided tape (:

wow.
this piece had inspired me to design an origmai based panel for my art project...
the theme is structure and im very interested with making things out of paper, and you have made it look so beautiful and i hope that once i learn origami properly i can create a piece thats as elegant as this.
BEAUTIFUL piece of artwork

wow thankyou! Its a fun theme to do for an art project though its very time consuming to fold all the little pieces. I looked alot at architecture (more specifically modern architecture) when i did the project and also abstract sculptures.
Im so glad you like it so much ^_^ thanks!

thats no problem at all
im currently working from a 1919 architectural piece that was based on futurism by Virgilio Marchi and it was kind of abstract as well, so hopefully that helps with the project.
thanks for the hints as well

wow, that is really cool! your teachers a moron. i mean, come on! it's falling apart, and the only one CARING enough to fix it is the one whom made it. it looks mazing by the way, i wish i could make origami like that, but i'm having trouble with a STAR. although i have made some ninja stars, which turned out pretty darn good.
