Description A commissioned piece, the poem was written by the client when he was a sailor on one of the ships on the Great Lakes in 1961. He wrote it and sent it home to his family. His mother had the poem re-written in calligraphy by a nun who also did nautical illustrations around the edges. The piece was misplaced over the years and the client's daughter remembered it and asked her dad about it. He is a regular client for painted Christmas ornaments and asked if I would do this for him.
The illustrations I chose are different from the originals as I wanted to include the ship he was on and Lake Ontario, which was the main lake his ship sailed. I think he was pleased with the finished piece
